Nice name or sounds like an old lady?

Lovely.

daisydoodoo · 07/08/2012 20:42

Awful. Old lady name, becoming trendy along with other old lady names. Will be the sharon and Tracey of the 10's

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 07/08/2012 20:44

Lovely. Would have been DS5's name if he'd been a girl.

usualsuspect · 07/08/2012 20:45

Too old lady

MikeLitorisRings · 07/08/2012 20:46

Love it.

Wanted it for dd2 but dp didn't. Settled for Eliza and I now just calk her Elsie anyway Grin

VolAuVent · 07/08/2012 20:51

Old lady

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 07/08/2012 20:59

I like it, but prefer a more formal name as the given name - Elise or Elizabeth with Elsie as the nn.

xmasevebundle · 07/08/2012 21:10

I only no one elsie and shes 17 (im 19) it suits her and i personally like the name its nice and no used that much.

If i had a girl i was going to with Irene after my late nan.

Ham69 · 07/08/2012 21:20

Pretty name. Know 2 and they're both around 6 years old.

winkle2 · 07/08/2012 23:06

Too old lady. Prefer Elsa.

wigglesrock · 07/08/2012 23:11

I know a lot of people like it and I am usually very kind on baby name threads but Grin I know a little Elsie. When I first heard it I thought "not my cup of tea, but am sure it'll be lovely on her", well its not. She's a lovely little girl (about 2.5 now) and every time I hear it, it doesn't get any better. It is very grannyish. I like Elsa and Elise.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/08/2012 23:15

Hideous. Elsa is much better. We used to live next to an old lady called Elise - she said that her name was really Elsie but her husband hated it, so called her Elise!

Ethel Doris and Enid are also vile names and should not be inflicted on a new generation. Or Edna. In fact, apart from Emma, Elizabeth and Eve, there are very few nice names (IMO) beginning with E.

Ham69 · 07/08/2012 23:41

Edie, Eloise, Elodie, Evelyn, Erin, Emmie, Esther, Esme, Eliza, Emily, Elise, I could go on mrsschadenfreude
What an 'interesting' comment about very few nice names beginning with E. Not bitter at all because my daughter's beautiful name begins with E
And I love Elsie!

FateLovesTheFearless · 07/08/2012 23:43

I have a six year old Elsie, everyone loves her name. However you may not use it. I had it first! Grin

UglyBettyIsMyHotterSister · 07/08/2012 23:44

Love, love, love

Flutterbutterby · 08/08/2012 20:55

I had an Auntie Elsie (my Grandma's aunt therefore my great great aunt), so yes, very old lady to me! I do like Elsa and Ailsa though.

Hybrid · 08/08/2012 21:26

Love it! Wasn't sure at first but think its so pretty now. However, utterly biased as its my godaughter's name!

DeekeyDoo · 09/08/2012 08:00

Love it! My second DD was going to be Elsie but she didn't look like one! Now my niece is Elsie and it suits her. beautiful name x

FateLovesTheFearless · 09/08/2012 08:43

When I told my gran I was naming my dd2 after her, she was horrified Grin oh you can't give her such an old name, call her elise instead.

I told her that i was calling her Elsie for three reasons. The first being I loved the name. Second that my gran had been like a second mother to me, that all her twenty grandchildren and over thirty great grand children thought the world of her. Thirdly that my gran is a wonderful role model and when my dd2 grows up, I hope she will be as proud to be named after such a wonderful person as I am to give her the name and I hope she chooses to live her life in the humble, gentle, kind manner that my gran has lived hers. My grandparents have been together over sixty years, had six boys, lost one to MS, were in the submarines and the land army, I have upmost respect and love for them Smile

It may be an old lady name, but I happen to love the old lady in question and my daughter, there is nothing 'Sharon' or 'Tracey' about either of them. Smile
