bump is tiny, but thinking about names already!

She / he will be part Welsh, Scottish, Irish and English.

We like the more unusual names - to give you an idea, boys names we like include Inigo, Oisín and Taliesin.

I'm a bit stuck on girls names, I'd be grateful to hear any ideas!

TIA :)

Sinead? Orla? Niamh?

NoRunIntended · 07/08/2012 02:15

TéàmGB? :)

Or this site has a long list: www.babynameguide.com/categoryceltic.asp?strGender=F&strAlpha=A&strCat=Celtic&strOrder=Name

LeB0F · 07/08/2012 03:05

Róisín

Arana · 07/08/2012 03:18

Ciara/Keira?

Lots of Welsh names are either unpronouncable (Angharad, Gwenllian, Llinos) or a bit naff (Nerys, Sioned, Nia, Delyth).

There are some that are lovely though - Elin, Enlli, Carys, Seren, Megan, Bethan.

Badgerina · 07/08/2012 08:32

Boudicca.

PepperOnMyPaprikash · 07/08/2012 08:37

Arana - Angharad unpronounceable? It's pronounced as it looks - Ang-ha-rad. The others are more difficult I agree.

trumpton · 07/08/2012 08:47

Ealee, Ailish, Breeshey, Caitlin, Ciara, Ealee, Fritha, Fenella, Fiona, Graiah, Grainne,Moirrey, Maeve , Mona, Naomi,Onnee, Paaie, Sorcha, Isbel.

All people I know on this Celtic Island.

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 11:10

Sinead's lovely but have a good friend by that name already.

Arana "Sioned, Nia" naff?! Shock
They're lovely names!!

Personally I find Orla and Niamh a bit tired, but know they are very popular in the UK.

rezzle · 07/08/2012 11:28

Personally I much prefer Scottish and Irish names to Welsh names, so how about -

Fionnuala (Finn/Nuala)
Eilidh
Aoife (although it's getting popular I think)
Catriona
Maeve
Ishbel
Iona

I love the boys' name Oisin but my favourite Celtic name is Fergus, I just love it!

BonaDea · 07/08/2012 11:32

Our baby will be half Scottish and I'm definitely liking Eilidh (although worried about it being a difficult-to-spell curse for her life!) and Iona already. DH not convinced. I can see this being a battle.

Scots boys names: Hamish, Magnus, Bruce, Callum, Fergus.

thunksheadontable · 07/08/2012 11:43

Aoife
Aoibhinn (Eve-een)
Aoibh - Eve
Siúin (Shoon, or more really Shooin)
Ériú Ay-roo (but this means Ireland so might seem weird to you if you're not Irish)
Sadhbh - Sive
Muireann - Mwirren
Róisín - Row-sheen
Fia - fee-a (means deer)
Aisling - Ash - ling (means dream or vision)
Iona
Eilidh
Sorcha - Sur-a-ka in Ireland, Sorsha in Scotland (I think)
Anwen
Bronwen

LaVolcan · 07/08/2012 12:10

Unpronouncable - no, Gwenllian and Llinos are pronounced exactly as they are spelt!!

Naff? Matter of opinion, but no worse than the Tilly, Milly, Evies which are around just now.

How abour Carys or Dilys?

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 14:11

I did used to really like Cerys / Carys but getting a bit popular now.

I like Sioned and Aoife best so far I think.

I'd love to hear some more Welsh and Scottish names though.

This website is good, some of the names are a bit dubious though!

What about Ffion, Sian or Tegan. All good Celtic names.

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 20:27

I absolutely love Sian but can't use it for family reasons.

Had they been girls, my twins were going to be called Caoimhe (pronounced Keeva) and Saoirse (pronounced Seersha). But no, I had to go and have two boys who messed up my gorgeous name plans Wink

mybootsaremuddy · 07/08/2012 20:38

rezzle Thunksheadontable how do you pronounce Eilidh? I think Ay-lee but dh thinks Ee-lee or Ee-li-th.
It looks realy pretty

trumpton · 07/08/2012 21:44

We would ay Ay-lee.

trumpton · 07/08/2012 21:44

say dammit !

rezzle · 07/08/2012 22:46

I too would say Ay-lee (think Hayley without the 'H').

LineRunnerSpartanNaked · 07/08/2012 22:48

What about those lovely (biblical) Manx boys in Team GB?
Mark
&
Peter

threeleftfeet · 07/08/2012 23:53

You think I should name a baby girl Mark or Peter?! Wink

I'm all for unusual makes, but that's a step too far, even for me! Grin
