What do you think? Heard this today and I really really like it. Would be short for Harriet. Thank you.

Because it's a posh and unusual name. I can assure you that Hattie is not a common name in South London state schools. There is a lovely little boy called Geoffrey at my school who gets teased a lot because of his name. I am not saying that the OP should not use the name just that you do have to consider the circumstances in which the child will be educated.

WopBopALooBop · 07/08/2012 14:21

As a mother and teacher who lives/works in the Black Country in the West Midlands,I have never experienced any bullying of my child re her name.

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 07/08/2012 19:46

It's a lovely name, one that was on my girls list. I think of Tom's Midnight Garden too.

bullrush · 07/08/2012 21:21

Ham69 · 07/08/2012 21:26

My friend is a Registrar at local office and there has never been another one registered in 14 years. My DS is Dexter which seems to be getting more popular and he was born before the television series. Our youngest is Felicity which people have commented about being 'posh',but maybe that's to do with Felicity Kendall.

Teladi · 07/08/2012 22:03

I have a 12mo Harriet and am now a bit concerned that I have come in at the start of a big Harriet trend! Have seen the name mentioned a few times around here lately!

Have only had good reactions to the name so far, she is just Harriet though not Hattie.

mumnosGOLDisbest · 07/08/2012 22:05

Its lovely. Surprised at people saying there are lots, 12yrs of teaching and 3dcs througj mums n toddler groups and i havent met 1 :)

womma · 07/08/2012 22:19

Very nice, good choice

exoticfruits · 07/08/2012 22:21

Harriet is lovely but I wouldn't use Hattie. I knew a dog called Hattie and that was much more suitable than a human.

mumnosGOLDisbest · 09/08/2012 13:09

Hettie is also lovely.

sostressedsostressed · 10/08/2012 01:11

I read a slave book once and the character was Hattie. Reminds me of hard times. How about Helen or Haile?

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 11/08/2012 08:38

I always said I'd called a girl Hattie.

After Hattie Jacques. I kid ye not, my son is named after another "Carry On.." actor.

Love it op.

sostressed a slave name? Are you absolutely serious?

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 11/08/2012 08:41

I loved this name...Until I read Sybil. Ruined it for me, I wanted it as one of my baby names. Envy

Enjoy!

Bunbaker · 11/08/2012 08:45

Yes, it is a nickname for Harriet. I like both names. Go for it.
