Have just come across this again and I think I might love it! Would be a second name.

Wadaya reckon?!

Too much like salami for me Grin
Plus the connotations would put me off personally.

Sastra · 03/08/2012 17:51

Oh, see I would pronounce it SAL-o-may...

Salomé was all about the seduction and the sexy dancing wasn't she?

She features strongly (and beautifully) in art, opera and literature. I'm just not sure. . . .

I'm not saying don't do it but it's a bit of a gamble as it's a name with very strong connotations that your little Salomé may not share.

squoosh · 03/08/2012 18:00

Just noticed you said second name.

In that case go for it!

minipie · 03/08/2012 18:00

I just picture a head on a plate.

scentednappyhag · 03/08/2012 18:03

Those were the connotations I meant Minipie Grin perfect for a Halloween baby though?

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 03/08/2012 18:04

My grandfather had a tortoise called Salome, but I don't expect many people will have a reptilian association with the name.

minipie · 03/08/2012 18:06

I think for a second (middle) name it's actually pretty cool.

Sastra · 03/08/2012 18:09

She is due right around hallowe'en Grin

I'm fine with the john the baptist thing (would make things interesting if we tried to get her into an RC school) and I guess I like the idea of strong femininity (even if it went a little far!).

Let's see what DH says GrinGrin

OP posts:
Sastra · 03/08/2012 18:25

DH thinks it might be a bit much with the first name. He's pondering.

The story is creepy - seducing her stepfather? Bleurgh. And however it's supposed to be pronounced, she'll definitely get Salami from a lot of people. Sorry. I think it's awful. If you are after a Biblical name, there's a lot of strong women in there. How about Esther, Judith or even Magdalene?

Sastra · 03/08/2012 18:43

God no, I don't want a biblical name in particular! I just like the sound of it really.

OP posts:
IslaValargeone · 03/08/2012 18:46

It is a lovely sounding name, but it conjures up too much strumpety imagery for me.

lisianthus · 03/08/2012 18:57

Ok then is it the Sal bit or the fact that it has a nice strong non-missish ending? we can work with that!

IslaValargeone · 03/08/2012 19:17

The last bit of what you said :o

Sastra · 03/08/2012 19:34

Hit me with 'em lis!

OP posts:
Sastra · 03/08/2012 19:36

I think I like the classical but unusualness of it. Chosen first name falls into this category, so many I'm just being greedy!

OP posts:
IslaValargeone · 03/08/2012 19:42

"Greed is good"

VolAuVent · 03/08/2012 20:15

I'd avoid it because of the Bible story about Salome.

strawberrybubblegum · 05/08/2012 10:58

I think it's a very pretty name too.
How about Naomi or Thalia?

Sastra · 05/08/2012 12:15

First name's Tabitha, so might be a bit much!

Clawdy · 05/08/2012 13:20

It is rather nice, but the head on a plate spoils it....Wink
