Not as first names; that would be silly!

No, our baby is due in 10 days and we are pretty much decided on calling him Rex.

Our surname is two syllables beginning with P, very like Palmer but not! We are keen to have Arthur in there as a middle name and also Nye, both mean lots to us.

But, with the addition of Arthur with its vowel initial, the overall initials are proving problematic.

Which is better:

Rex Arthur Nye P....... - RANP

or

Rex Nye Arthur P....... - RNAP

My head says that the first flows better but that the initials are better for the second.

Or are we entirely over thinking it and neither set of initials are good or bad?

Overthinking.

It really won't matter. But, Rex Arthur Nye sounds more pleasing to the ear than Rex Nye Arthur.

seeker · 03/08/2012 16:03

I don't think you can have "bad initials , can you? Unless it's Stephen Henry Inigo Turner or something...........

thisisyesterday · 03/08/2012 16:03

i think you're overthinking it Wink

either works fine. it's just initials!

saying them out loud I think that Rex Arthur Nye P.. flows a bit better. otherwise it kind of sounds like RexNye is all one word.
but that's minor!

Rex is a fab name

squoosh · 03/08/2012 16:55

It doesn't matter.

squoosh · 03/08/2012 16:56

I do love Rex though.

glittershoes · 03/08/2012 17:14

Thank you! I think I have got to the over thinking stage for certain! I agree that Rex Arthur Nye is definitely more pleasing to the ear. Feeling lots better about it. It is so silly how you can make these little decisions so huge isn't it?

Rex Arthur Nye. Lovely.

propercharlie · 03/08/2012 19:39

I think if your surname is what I think it is then you probably dont want Arthur right next to it?? Sort of rhymes no?

I would go for RANP :)

AKissIsNotAContract · 03/08/2012 19:41

Rex is a lovely name. I'd also go for RANP.

Rex Nye Arthur sounds like you're a telesales person spelling something, 'charlie victor golf' etc...

justonemorethread · 03/08/2012 19:50

Didn't mean to sound like i'm criticising the names, btw, just the flow! Rex Arthur Nye much better.

VolAuVent · 03/08/2012 20:13

RANP

MickeyTheShortOne · 03/08/2012 20:46

I beg to differ Seeker- If my parents hadnt given my sister a middle name her intials would have been F.U!!!! Hahahahaah!!! I think either is fine though!!

glittershoes · 03/08/2012 23:17

No direct rhyme propercharlie but agree with the general consensus that Rex Arthur Nye flows better.

I love Aneurin TheJoyfulPuddlejumper (love your name btw!) and was pushing for it as a first name but DH isn't as keen. I thought that Rex Arthur Aneurin was a bit too much of a mouthful.
