What do you think? Also like Flora. Sir-name starts with "Z".

Love Nell. I have a friend with a Nell (10yrs old). Eliza is lovely too. I might have an Eliza myself Wink

Emphaticmaybe · 03/08/2012 15:41

Eliza would go well with a Z surname, but all three are lovely.

squoosh · 03/08/2012 15:43

I love Nell.

Just Nell, not as short for anything.

Elspeth makes me think of an elderly. Scottish spinster. Nothing wrong with that really, just sounds a bit dusty.

LiteraryMermaid · 03/08/2012 17:02

Love Eliza, but suspect it's going to get very popular before too long, if that's an issue for you. Also not sure whether Eliza Z... would have too many z sounds?

Nell is cute too - short and sweet! Not so keen on Elspeth (though I know a lovely one) - seems a bit clunky.

newby2 · 03/08/2012 17:09

Elspeth is a bit of a mouthful- think we'll rule it out with her "Z" surname. I'm surprised so many people like Nell! I get funny looks when I put it out there. Eliza Z is a lot of Z's too. Perhaps its back to Flora!

Flora and Nell are my favourites from your list! When I get funny looks from certain people over a name, it tells me I must be on the right track. ;)

newby2 · 03/08/2012 18:16

Haha Gugglebum. Exactly! I think they're mine too will run it past the management. Also forgot that I like Emilia and Erin too. How about Flora Nell Emilia Erin:-) Bit too much????

Not keen on Nell but love Elspeth and Eliza (I actually have a teenage one of these myself Grin )

BlueMoon74 · 03/08/2012 18:32

Elspeth is awful. Went to school with two Elspeths...both got teased mercilessly...one has now re-branded herself as an "Ellie".

Please don't inflict this on your daughter! Flora is lovely, Eliza is classy. Nell will get Nelly the Elephant (which could be awful if your daughter ends up being a little tubster!)

Sastra · 03/08/2012 18:35

Love Nell (I know a stunningly beautiful, clever and lovely Nell!). I think Nelly the elephant is quite old now?

Gugglebum · 03/08/2012 18:35

Ooo, might be a bit long with all of those names. Maybe pick just one of the E names? How many syllables is your surname?

newby2 · 03/08/2012 19:16

Yes I think you're right Gugglebum! 2 syllables in the surname. There are some very good points here. Nell seems controversial so does Elspeth. I don't want to saddle her with a name that is hard work before she even starts life!

Lots to think about!

Nell is lovely. I don't like Eliza. LOVE Elspeth and it was my number one choice for dd.

My other possibilities for her / ds (we didn't know he was a boy!) Were: Mairead, Flora, Caitlin, Ailish, Mirren if that helps any?

newby2 · 03/08/2012 19:32

Lovely names Willow. Oh no Ive added more now. Emilia Elspeth Erin Nell Flora Caitlin!!

Elspeth, or Nell if it's a nickname for something longer.

Not keen on Eliza, it's a bit harsh.

rainnie · 03/08/2012 22:51

I love Elspeth, so much so one of my DD is named Elspeth, her friends call her Beth which I also like.

DawEtoHaul · 03/08/2012 23:05

The first thread I've ever seen where I love all the names in the OP. I would've wanted to call DD Eliza, had we been using English names, it's a family name.

But not so sure about Caitlin, it's nice in itself but is one of those names that's used a lot, especially with those 'alternative' spellings that seem to get discussed a lot on MN!

newby2 · 04/08/2012 07:31

Daw- great! I'm with you on Caitlin, theres a lot of them around. I like Elspeth shortened to `Beth, hadn't thought of that. We've got a couple of months to think about it luckily.

DawEtoHaul · 04/08/2012 15:09

Yes, I really like that, newby, you and I obviously share similar tastes. Great minds and all that... Grin

aslongasheneedsme · 04/08/2012 17:28

I'm an Elspeth, I love my name. I'm Elspeth to my Scottish family, Beth to my English friends

newby2 · 05/08/2012 12:46

Aslong- that's nice to hear. We do love it but have no connection to celtic background. It's our favourite over Eliza though.

Eliza

LondonNadiy · 05/08/2012 19:28

I'd use Eliza as a nn for Elsbeth personally! I LOVE Elsbeth and Nell - but Nell as a nn for Penelope, Elinor or Cornelia. Erin is gorgeous too.

Flora is quite common lately, I know/know of 3 baby/toddler Floras.

maddiemostmerry · 05/08/2012 19:34

Elspeth is beautiful and underused. Beth is lovely and it could be shortened to Elsa as well. Not keen on Eliza.

Flora is a margarine.

Nell, I think "not on your nelly" or "smelly nelly". Sorry

Muffincrumpet · 05/08/2012 21:25

Elspeth is a lovely name and also like the fact it can be shortened to Elsa
