Do you know any? Is it common? I'm in Ireland and I have never met one, so I don't think it is very popular here! Do you like it? Tanx in advance!!

I love it. Was on our list if we'd had a boy. I know of one Luca and think it is becoming more popular (but i am in England).

Flossiechops · 03/08/2012 14:43

Hi there, I know of 4 Lucas here in the Midlands so definitely getting more popular. It is a lovely name though so I can see why, boys names seem to be tougher than girls. We went for Dylan as dh is welsh :)

cucumbereyes · 03/08/2012 14:43

I love it. I have a Luca. I do know several other Luca's though, it seems to be fairly popular. My DS is the only one in his class at school though there is a Lucas.

Flossiechops are you I the midlands in Ireland or England? It's so difficult to know how popular names are in Ireland as the CSO only release the top 100!! I don t want a super popular name! Tanx for the comments so far seem to be positive sofar Smile

I know a few in England. I think it's a wuss name, sorry.

My 7 week old DD would have been Luca if she had been a boy. I don't think it's hugely popular in Ireland (I'm in Dublin) but I do think it's about to be. There have been a couple in the birth announcements in the last year and we seem to follow the uk with popular names do as it's creeping up over there, it's only a matter of time before we follow suit. I thought DS's name, Noah, was so so original but it shot up over 30 places on the cso list the year after we had him. I think luca will defo grow in popularity but that didn't bother me as I love it. Also, damn Hilary duff!

KateBeckett · 03/08/2012 15:06

Wuss name Hmm

It's lovely, I only know of a couple, of differing ages (youngest 7) but I'm in England...

DawnOfTheDee · 03/08/2012 15:31

Tis definitely not a wuss name.....Luca Brasi anyone..? Grin

squoosh · 03/08/2012 15:38

I know a little Irish Luca and a friend who considered it as her son's name so it must be creeping up in popularity in Ireland.

Maybe cos people love Luka Bloom?

smoothieooo · 03/08/2012 15:41

Absolutely lovely name! And, in fact, is the name of DS2! Grin

McKayz · 03/08/2012 15:45

I quite like it. I know 3 whose parents all support Chelsea and so named their sons after Gianluca Vialli. Smile

smoothieooo · 03/08/2012 16:17

He's lucky in that he was almost called Raphael (name of an archangel - as DS1 is named after the best known archangel)! Settled for that being his middle name instead...

VolAuVent · 03/08/2012 20:18

I don't know anyone called Luca.

Personally I prefer Luke or Lucas, as Luca sounds a bit feminine with ending in a.

Flossiechops · 04/08/2012 15:19

West midlands Grin

GoranisGod · 04/08/2012 15:24

headfairy · 04/08/2012 21:37

I have a Luca so obviously I love the name. We're Italian descent though and have an Italian surname so it fits well I think. Dd has an Italian name too.

sarahseashell · 04/08/2012 21:40

nice, although Luke is also lovely
