How to choose a unique name for your baby!

While wasting time at work, struggling to fit under the desk because of bump number 3, I discovered this baby name page:

here

I'm sure those seeking the wisdom of MN when choosing their baby's name will no longer need it.

And the world will be richer for all the new names created in the ways suggested.

Come on now, there's more to naming your beloved offspring than your average MN approved names like 'Octavia', 'Maud' or 'Benedict'

Bring on the baby name revolution! Grin

*Disclaimer - my children both have names that would generally be disapproved of on here - bitter? Me? Nah, I love my children's names! And may be experiencing high levels of crazy hormones

My eyes are bleeding. It's like looking at NetMums The-Site-That-Shall-Not-Be-Mentioned but done only in red, black and white - and as for the punctuation...Shock

Will go back and look at the 'unique' names when I have recovered. Grin Grin

Oh, and congratulations on number 3. Smile

rachel234 · 03/08/2012 07:51

There are more than enough proper names out there imo - lots of gorgeous underused names outside the top 250 names.

DawEtoHaul · 03/08/2012 08:06

Congratulations on number 3! I'm also expecting no 3 so was very glad to stumble upon this thread.

My well of creativity had run dry but no longer. Taking inspiration from Dallas and Brooklyn, and the intended place of my child's birth, may I introduce Daw3: 'Rhyl'.

No, hang on, Rh'yll Smile

MoonlightOlympicsareMarvellous · 03/08/2012 09:00

Congratulations Daw.
Rh'yll is a lovely name and I'm sure DC3 will fit right in with the other StarTrekkers in school with that one.
Have you considered Lly'hr too? That's a still little bit like a proper Welsh name, but still completely unique. Wink Grin

You could just go for underused names from history.

Like Gyrth or Leofwine, for instance. They were King Harold's brothers (the King Harold killed at the battle of Hastings in 1066). I've never even heard of a modern day Gyrth or Leofwine, so that'd be pretty unique Wink

Ecgwynn · 03/08/2012 10:12

Gyrth.
If only that were my husband's name.

DawEtoHaul · 03/08/2012 11:23

Uh oh Moonlight, the less imaginative Smile version of the name you mentioned is actually the name we've picked!!

I don't know about Star Trek but that is spooky!

I do like Rh'yll though, it's very evocative. Perhaps as a middle name...

MoonlightOlympicsareMarvellous · 03/08/2012 12:19

What, with the apostrophe and all? Oops Blush.

I do like the actual name though, which is why I thought of it when I saw Rhyl. Counts as 'unusual' (in a good way) rather than 'unique' IYSWIM. Great minds obviously think alike!

BigBandwitch · 03/08/2012 14:56

haha, can you imagine that working outside of America? This is my daughter J'uliet Stanley Midnight Jones.

YodasMummy · 03/08/2012 15:20

Awesome. DD2 will be B'Oltonne without a shadow of a doubt. Sorted.

DawEtoHaul · 03/08/2012 18:26

Love B'Oltonne! Has shades of St. Evenage, as my aunt likes to call it, in Hertfordshire.

Yes, it was the actual name we were thinking of, although I shall ask the HVs to keep tabs and if it shows any sign of being popular we shall revert to Lly'hr!
