Matilda is my grans name..I have loved it forever
DP likes Harriet which I like too..But I'm not sure if its a forever name. And we're scottish and there is a tendency to drop the T. So it might be Harry-ih if you see what I mean.
I have 10 days left and no name..
I also like Betsy. Don't know if its just a bit old fashioned??
ARGHHH HELP Please!!

ooooohhh betsy

Matilda is wonderful. I think I'm one of the few on here who doesn't know one.

I imagine her to be a wonderful little girl, but that could just be down to the film ;)

VolAuVent · 01/08/2012 13:47

I think Harriet is the best of those.

How about Bethany, which is a bit less cutesy than Betsy?

tummytickler · 01/08/2012 15:24

I would go for Elizabeth, nn Betsy.
Matilda is nice, nn Tilda lovely. But Tilly is bloody awful.
Harriet is lovely and has lovely nn's.

So Elizabeth/Betsy, Harriet then Matilda.

LemonLovesLilac · 01/08/2012 15:31

100% Matilda I adore this name!!

Clarabumps · 01/08/2012 15:41

See I don't know any Matilda's..And there have never been any Matilda's taught by my sons nursery teachers which is a good sign. My Granny was called Tillie and I feel as though that is her name really so it would be full name Matilda.. I'm a bit of a stickler for full names. This is what puts me off Betsy/Bettie/Lizzie is that they are all derivatives of Elizabeth and I'm not that fussed on Elizabeth. EEK!
Looks like I'm still stuck on Matilda..

Elizabeth nn Betsy is lovely.

I also like Matilda but it's increasingly popular near me. Not so keen on Harriet especially if the T would be dropped.

SweetPea3 · 01/08/2012 16:28

Matilda and Harriet are lovely. Not so keen on Betsy.

Given the family connection, I would pump for Matilda!

CheerfulYank · 01/08/2012 16:35

They're all lovely really.

I really like Elizabeth nn Betsy best, or you could have Bethany nn Betsy if you wanted.

Matilda and Harriet are also nice. :)

My new daughter is Matilda! Love it! I don't know any and I think it's still quite a quirky name for my neck of the woods (whereas I know it's popular verging on common elsewhere). Im not keen on tilly so she'll be Millie although I love how my friend's little boy calls her Tilda!

SirEdmundFrillary · 01/08/2012 16:39

Harriet.

Dolallytats · 01/08/2012 16:42

Harriet is my favourite out of those. I love the 'old fashioned' names that are coming back. Violet, Iris, Ivy, Betty (but not so keen on Betsy!!), Florrie....all lovely!!

girlsofsummer · 01/08/2012 16:42

Betsy

cherrypieplum · 01/08/2012 17:32

I love Iris and Violet too but was vetoed by DH! X

manicinsomniac · 01/08/2012 17:41

Definitely Matilda. Love it. Harriet is ok, don't like Betsy

EllenParsons · 01/08/2012 22:03

Harriet is lovely! Not too keen on Matilda (too popular) or Betsy (too cutesy)

Ham69 · 01/08/2012 22:19

I actually really like all of them. Always loved Harriet and I know an adorable Matilda who gets called Tilda. Betsy's great too. I don't think you can go far wrong with any of them actually.

letseatgrandma · 01/08/2012 22:32

I love all of those names-you have fab taste! They were on our lists with DD1 and 2 actually, but Matilda doesn't sound good with the local accent and a close friend had used Harriet.

I also liked Nancy, Martha, Pippa, Clara, Ffion and Imogen :)

BTW, I'm a KS1 teacher and have never taught anyone with any of those names. I feel like I need another baby now to use more lovely names! Please let us know what you decide on!
