What names can I shorten to 'Pip'?

DP has quite a few family members with this NN,including his DGM who's name is simply Pip.
I'd quite like to use it at some point...so,any suggestions?

I think most people will naturally think Pip is short for Philippa / Pippa or Philip.

Piper,
Pia,
I know a Penelope called Pippa nn Pip. Have no idea why, must be a family thing Hmm

wigglesrock · 30/07/2012 20:33

I went to school with a Pip - he was Paul.

VolAuVent · 30/07/2012 20:34

Philippa or Philip.

Peregrine. As in Peregrine Took (Hobbit) who is known as Pippin or Pip :)

BigHairyFlowers · 31/07/2012 00:45

Pippin.

HolyOlympicNamechangeBatman · 31/07/2012 01:39

Anything you want. Call the bump pip and it'll stick, it's gender neutral, it's likely to be shorter than any name, an all round good nn.

FriggFRIGG · 31/07/2012 07:22

That is a very good point Holy

I love pippin, but that bloody dog from 'come outside' has ruined it Angry

Perigrine is nice, but makes me think of birds of prey and hobbits...

I was going to say the same thing as Holy - just call the bump pip, it will stick. I know plenty of beans, strawbs and buns.

As much as I love Pippin (fool of a Took!) - its not a very sensible first name is it? Maybe as a second name, and you could still use? James Pippin Frigg sounds like a lovely name. And Peregrine is a species of falcon. It would be like calling your child Lesser Spotted Frigg, Barn Frigg or Common House Frigg, don't you think?

And of course - if its a girl - Pippa is a great name, and she could definately be a Pip then. Although one of my best friends is Pippa, and she gets called Pee...

Ooooo - Piper! Brilliant MacMac Job done.

sharonf · 31/07/2012 10:46

I love the name Pippa, with the nn Pip. I am tempted to use it. But beware, first google what Pippa means in Greek, and also in some Scandinvaian countries. It could make travelling to those places a little awkward.

MacMac123 · 31/07/2012 19:12

So Envy of anyone whose DH agrees to Piper when mine won't!!

puds11 · 31/07/2012 19:13

Persephone?
