And that's what'll be on bc, I'm not into putting one name on and calling another, pointless.

YY I like them both Grin

I wanted Charlie for our dc, boy or girl, but DH wasn't keen and we ended up with Evan Smile

MrsKeithRichards · 26/07/2012 08:15

Both are family names, from people that were given the full versions but stopped using them as soon as possible!

Personally, I'm not a big fan of boys names that end in 'ie' sounds. (To give you a clue, I really like names such as Gabriel, Reuben, Sebastian, Ezra, Elijah, Noah).

Nothing wrong with Charlie and Freddie on their BCs, though. But, I still think I'd prefer a 'full' name on my BC with the option of using a shortened version. It's all personal taste :)

I love the names. Sounds perfect. I know a 70+ year old man called Freddie - even when I was a teenager I thought his name was gorgeous and almost exotic. He's a lovely man and so suits his name.

GnocchiNineDoors · 26/07/2012 11:13

Ooh im in your camp OP. I have a Meg and she is just Meg on the BC not Megan or Margaret.

Good on you Grin

rachel234 · 26/07/2012 11:45

These trendy cutesy names (Archie,Alfie,Charlie, Freddie,Lily,Milly etc) have become so fashionable and popular recently that I expect them to start to fall out of favour as people start to look for more 'solid' names. I'm not keen on either Charlie or Freddie but I do like Charles and especially Frederick - sounds elegant, classy and cool imo.

pinkgirlythoughts · 26/07/2012 12:21

I work with a woman who has sons Frederick and Charles, known as Freddie and Charlie. I think they're a lovely pair and go really well together. My son is Frederick (Freddie), and I'd seriously consider calling the next one Charles (Charlie), if it wasn't for the fact that my grandad is Charles Frederick, and other members of the family might find it a tad unfair if both of our children were named after him!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 26/07/2012 13:47

I really don't think Charlie or Freddie could be described as cutesy names! They are really solid and timeless.

I prefer the nicknames to the full names, myself, but do get the reasoning to put the full names on the BC for choice when they are older.

TBH, my name has always been abbreviated and I hate the full name, which is very old fashioned and formal, think Gertrude, rather than Trudy, so I can also sympathise with putting the name you like on the BC.

MadStaringEyes · 26/07/2012 14:44

Personally I'd put the full name on the birth cent, but i am a shortened version of a full name and am fed up of explaining that, no i am not a, for instance, Jennifer, just a Jenny.

rezzle · 26/07/2012 14:56

I really love Charlie, but find Charles so pompous as I grew up with a really stuck up one! Freddie and Frederick are really lovely. I don't see the point in using a long name on the birth certificate which is why I chose a name for DS that can't be lengthened but is still quite relaxed, IYSWIM?

jellybeans · 26/07/2012 14:57

I think they sound nice together although for me Charlie is too popular. I agree use short names-I have for one of mine and haven't regretted it. Most people do use short forms these days.

shimmy0 · 26/07/2012 15:11

I'm not a fan of naming twins similar names and I don't like the name Freddie.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 26/07/2012 21:52

So, shimmy, would you prefer names that are very different for twins? Like Rafferty and Paul? Even for my non twins DC I wanted names that sounded like they went quite well together.

footphobic · 30/07/2012 13:58

It's only since I've been on MN (after having 5 dcs inc dts Grin) that I've realised people give so much thought to names that go together obviously a bit thick in this regard, to the degree that they wouldn't have their first choice because it doesn't go as well. Each name has been chosen for our dcs because we loved it individually, if there'd been an obvious horrible clash then no, luckily they all go together well imo, but I didn't give this aspect a second thought beforehand, only how they went with our surname. If I listed them on here I'd probably have lots of responses saying they don't go well Grin

VolAuVent · 30/07/2012 14:02

Personally I only like them as nicknames for something longer. I'd go for a full name that you do like, instead.

Flojo1979 · 30/07/2012 14:06

I get were u r coming from, I think its ridiculous when ppl put long names on birth cert then call them something else. Bit that's just me. My ds is Alex and it bugs when ppl assume he's Alexander.
Personally I don't like names ending in 'ie' sound for a boy.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/07/2012 14:10

Lovely.
No point in using long versions on the birth cert if that is not their name.
I have a Rudy. He is not Rudolph so buggered if ism going to register him as one!
