Eastenders has screwed up our choice

Since we discovered we were having a girl many weeks ago she has been Scarlet. Deliberately no tt on the end. now my sister has told me Janine in eastenders has named her baby Scarlett.

I am now worried there will be 6 other Scarlett or Scarlets in her class! Our surname is boring so we wanted something unusual. Advice please!

I thought Scarlet was one of the names of the nightclub in EE, named after Johnny Allen's deceased daughter (sister of Ruby).

Soaps aren't that influential, especially now viewing figures are generally lower.

Scarlett isn't that unusual - there are 2 in my dd's class. how about looking outside the top 100 for some inspiration?

Yes Eastenders are re-using the name of the club, I am an avid watcher of Eastenders and it's still a popular show, though having said that if you really want the name go for it, it's still a lovely name.

There's another baby due to arrive in Eastenders, the mother is a young girl called Lola, I'm wondering what name this next baby will have (hopefully not one of mine and oh's choices :-)

Scarlett is pretty common anyway, I dont think anyone would associate it with Eastenders.
If you are looking for an unusual name then you should probably think again.
Each year the government produces lists of how many babies were given each name - that might help you?

I like the name. And would be thinking of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. Not Eastenders.

why the deliberate misspelling? Unusual is great, Scarlett isn't unusual. Kids with quirky spellings have to waste time correcting people.

scarlet(t) isnt that uncommon, i had it as apossible when we had dd, but dp vetoes it.

Scarlet(t) is a common name, it's been in the top 100 for a few years now. My DD1 is 16 and has a friend with the name. My DD2 is 6 and there are 2 in her year and one at her gymnastics club.

Eastenders will do very little to increase its popularity as its a common name.

Also why not with the double t? It looks like you just didn't realise its with a double tt.

We saw the 24/100 a couple of months ago and looked at alternatives then but when we asked friends- many of whom are in teaching nobody knew any scarletts- it just isn't popular around here.

Was looking at scarlet as opposed to Scarlett to avoid the actress and because of the colour- my name can be spelt several different ways- u get used to it. My maiden name was always spelt wrong and once I got married and got a boring surname everyone started spellingCatherine differently!

We had this when Kat and Alfie named the baby tommy. We still called him tommy. I couldn't watch EE from the day the babies were swapped until he was given back though.

I've got an Oscar - I watch Coronation Street though [unhelpful].

OP, if you like Scarlett use it, I doubt Janine's offspring will go on tobe the Ken Barlow of E20...

I liked scarlett too, if you really like it just use it, whatever you name your baby there is bound to be a program or film with that name in.

There's no point in dropping the t as the name still has the same sound without it and your plan to avoid the actress is a little strange as she's just an actress and she hasn't murdered anyone or done anything to bring shame on the name. I think the name comes from the colour so the association to the colour will always be there whether the t is there or not. I agree with the other poster who said dont make the kid have to correct people everyday of her life.
The name is also associated with an illness (Scarlett fever) and again dropping a t will not make one blind bit of difference. Changing the lettering always reminds me of Anne of Green Gables, she constantly tells the other characters she is "Anne with an E" and they all say stuff like "Hello Anne with an E". Probably because they see her as being fussy.

I do prefer the double t spelling though- I have a common name with the more unusual spelling in this country (which I prefer the look of) but it has been a real pain as I just don't associate the more common spelling with me, IYSWIM. But if you prefer that spelling go with it.

Lexi that's ok by me as its not a name me or oh like anyway :-) I don't even like Lola's name as its too babyish.

I've just realised it's Scarlet fever, not Scarlett fever. I always thought the illness had tt
