have posted a couple of times asking for advice/opinions on names, and you usually get a lot of strong reactions from people, people either love/hate it, think its too posh/common, like traditional/cutesy names and it got me thinking that in real life we dont really air our opinion on what people call their children because its rude or none of our business.

i have compiled a list below of what my friends/colleagues have named their children, which ones do people like/hate, do you get an impression of the type of people/families they are based on what they called their little ones...really intrested in what people think......

arthur and jospeh
jasmine and james
chloe and poppy
henry and jasmine
rhys and flynn
lucy and finn
elin and ellis
kady and logan
jack and ruby
holly and luke
nicola and zoe
hope and layla
kiera
alfie
maisie

I love (baby) names and am enthusiastic about giving my opinions about the names that you presented in terms of whether I like/dislike them and what i think of them as sibling names.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am, though, in estimating the type of families that would create children with these names. I would feel quite judgemental doing this.

Okay so:

Arthur and Joseph - I like Joseph more than Arthur. Both names are quite popular

Jasmine and James - They're nice individually but I think they're too 'matchy' as a sibset

Chloe and Poppy - Cute individually and together

Henry ad Jasmine - I like thes two together very much

Rhys and Flynn - Don't like these; a bit harsh sounding for my tastes

Lucy and Finn - I don't like either of these names

Elin and Ellis - Oh no, not keen at all; neither individually nor together. Too much alliteration!

Kady and Logan - The individual names arent to my taste but as sibling names they flow very well and have a good sound together

Jack and Ruby - I'm a bit 'meh' - quite boring

Holly and Luke - Ditto

Nicola and Zoe - Quite unusual now, I think? I assume these children had been born maybe in the 1980s or 90s.

Hope and Layla - I like Hope but not so keen on Layla.

Keira - I really, really don't like this name

Alfie - Cute, but I think of I more as a pets name

Maisie - A sweet name for a little girl

arthur and jospeh - I tend to think of an Arthur as being cheeky/naughty.
jasmine and james - Urgh, alliteration.
chloe and poppy - Sweet
henry and jasmine - Sweet
rhys and flynn - Irrational dislike of the name 'Rhys' - again, assume naughty.
lucy and finn - lovely.
elin and ellis - ... That's like having Tim and Tom. Wtf.
kady and logan - Not to my taste. Well, Logan's ok, because of Wolverine, but Kady is a bit too cutesy for me.
jack and ruby - I'd assume this was the name of terriers. Sorry.
holly and luke - Lovely.
nicola and zoe - Yeah, lovely.
hope and layla - Bit too quirky for me.
kiera - Lovely.
alfie - Not to my taste.
maisie - Not to my taste.

I'm really not into the idea of guessing what "type" of people would choose the names, but I'll happily pass comment on the names themselves:

arthur and joseph = Arthur is great. Joseph is SO BORING.

jasmine and james = Jasmine I really dislike this name. Makes me think of Chinese Takeaway (which I love, but...)

James is a lovely name. I don't think the two go together (despite sharing the first 3 letters)

chloe and poppy = Chloe... yeah. Meh. Poppy... not really to my taste.

henry and jasmine = Henry. It's fine. Just heard it a lot. I prefer more unusual names. Jasmine: see above.

rhys and flynn = Rhys. Nope. Don't like the sound at all. Flynn I quite like actually. Although, I feel it's a little bit a case of parents thinking "Oooooh I like Finn, but it's very popular. What about Flynn???" Which puts me off.

lucy and finn = Lucy, sounds a bit like loo seat. I really like the name, but will never get over the loo seat association. My bad. Finn is ok.

elin and ellis = Don't like either, much less together. This is actually a bit weird to be honest.

kady and logan = Kady is just awful I'm afraid. NOT because it begins with a K, but because it sounds like an American trying to say Katie. Yuk. Logan is fine.

jack and ruby = Jack. Nice name. VERY OVERUSED. Ruby I quite like.

holly and luke = Holly, I really don't like. Not sure why. Luke is a bit tepid for me. Meh.

nicola and zoe = VERY dated. VERY 1980s. I think I had about 15 of each in my class in Primary.

hope and layla = Hope. Don't like virtuous names really. Layla, I like (prefer Leila) but it makes me think of Eric Clapton. Bleuurgh.

kiera = Not my taste at all.

alfie = SO TWEE. Nope. Should be Alfred, Fred as a nn.

maisie = Again, a very twee name. I really don't like given names that have the "ee" ending. It's too diminutive and... cutsie.

Are you planning to share the results wit the parents?

And given the number of examples you list, what are the chances of someone recognising the group (family names in particular) and bubbling it to the others?
