Sounds absolutely lovely to me. Especially with the surname.

twonker · 19/07/2012 22:00

Sounds ok to me. I don't think there's anything wrong with alliteration. Flora is a great name.

letseatgrandma · 19/07/2012 22:08

I really really liked Flora when pregnant with DD2, but DH fell about laughing when I suggested it as not only it is the name of a dairy spread, he couldn't get the revolting saying/joke about girls called Flora spreading easily (as in spreading their legs/sleeping around/spreading like butter!) out of his head.

Not pleasant, but was enough to put him off it...

Too much of a tongue twister.

Littlecherublegs · 20/07/2012 11:42

The name is ok and I have only ever known of one so its not popular / common.
However, I just dont do alliteration so Flora Findlay would be a no-go for me, sorry!

shimmy0 · 20/07/2012 11:51

Not if u live in the UK because of the margarine she might get all sorts of hassle at school like a previous poster said "Spreadable Flora".

FF reminds me of Tescos clothes, as a kid at school my mate got teased something terrible because her initials were PC, everyone used to sing the PC world theme at her but she just took it in her stride!

mendipgirl · 20/07/2012 12:01

I love it, DD2 is a Flora and I have never had anything but really good comments in RL. I would ignore those that make the margerine comments on MN as I have never had anyone mention it in RL. DD1's name is nice but I don't get half as many positive comments on that as i do on Flora.

darkfever · 20/07/2012 12:46

Personally, I wouldn't be able to get over the margerine association.

washngo · 20/07/2012 13:13

I know 2 Floras and have never thought of the margarine or associated it with them in the least. My name is Lydia, and people on here often say that Lydias will get called "Lydia Chlamydia"! But never once have I, in all my life, been called that. Flora is a lovely name, and makes me think of Flora McDonald. It is also simple, and unfussy whilst still being pretty. I prefer it to the ever popular Florence as i think it's just as pretty but less flouncy.

TheTeardropExplodes · 20/07/2012 20:30

I love alliterative names and Flora is beautiful.

If you are worried about the margarine associations, what about Fionnuala or Florence.

TabloidTart · 20/07/2012 20:42

Love it. I wanted Flora too - DH totally anti...

showtunesgirl · 20/07/2012 20:48

I immediately think "Buttery" I'm afraid!

However, Flora is one of my favourite literary heroines; Flora Poste in Cold Comfort Farm.

GnocchiNineDoors · 20/07/2012 20:53

Oooh, I grew up in a Flora butter house and even I don't associate it with butter.

Lovely name and love the alliteration.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 20/07/2012 20:56

Love it!!!

mrstowers · 20/07/2012 21:12

I too love it! Please go for it.

twonker · 21/07/2012 21:34

If you call her flora, you can get this lovely book of short stories about a troublemaker flora! One for me, one for you
