Minor decision to make, but I can't decide!

We have decided upon:

Aurora Elizabeth Eve

Or.... Aurora Elizabeth Evelyn.

Evelyn means more to us (family members name) but I like it, and the flow of it) less.

Which should we do??

I like Aurora Elizabeth Eve as it does flow better.

SoozyWoozy · 19/07/2012 13:28

Go with the name you like most.

I find the flow of both difficult, but I think that's because I find Aurora a bit of a tongue-tie, not because Elizabeth doesn't flow with Eve / Evelyn iyswim.

Aurora Elizabeth Eve.

If you go with Evelyn, I think the name has too many syllables and doesn't flow as well as it does with Eve.

Go with the family name if it has a special association.

There will be very few occasions in life when you get to use your full names - christenings and weddings perhaps so flow doesn't really matter.

However, it would be nice to be able to tell your DD about the loved person whom they are named after and how their name was chosen because it has special meaning to you.

FWIW I prefer Aurora Evelyn Elizabeth to Aurora Eliz Evelyn - they are all very pretty names btw

littletomato · 19/07/2012 13:43

hmm - in the minority here, but I prefer the sound of Aurora Elizabeth Evelyn. It sounds complete to me. Also, the other one sounds a little bit like a date, as in "New Year's Eve".

COCKadoodledooo · 19/07/2012 13:43

I think Evelyn flows better.

Nemonemo · 19/07/2012 13:43

Our surname is 4 syllables long so I'm not so worried about adding an extra one is...it's bonkers anyway....what's one more!!

I have read on here a lot of people saying they find Aurora difficult to say, but I don't at all so find it hard to see why others do!! We plan to call her Rory most of the time anyway...Aurora when she's in trouble :-))

I do much prefer Eve...but then if it wasn't for my relative, we'd probably have gone for something else entirely, so what's the point in only doing half a job.

I know it's only a small decision, but my pregnancy addled brain is making it a drama!!

Thanks to everyone who's replied :-)

Haha little tomato hadn't thought of that!!! But I definitely see what you mean!!!

Thanks elliephant I think they're pretty. I've always loved Aurora, but didn't think I'd have the guts. It's slightly more 'way out' than I'd go for, but surprisingly my husband (even more straight laced than me) loves it too.

I also think Evelyn flows better

Stellan · 19/07/2012 15:15

Not one of your choices but I'd choose Aurora Evelyn Elizabeth but Aurora Elizabeth Evelyn might sound better with your surname. Sentimental value trumps most other considerations, in my opinion.

Stellan · 19/07/2012 15:23

I find Aurora hard to say as it makes me feel like Jonathan Ross - Auwowa! I think this is because there's the 'au' sound of autumn followed by strong R sounds. I have to really slow down to say it clearly and then I can say it fine. I think you'd get used to saying it if was your child's name but I wouldn't pick it as it wouldn't work for me if I had to shout it out in the playground! I think children often struggle to say Rs clearly so it might be hard for her classmates to say until she is a little older. I find it easier to say if I think of it as uh-ROAR-uh.

littlemissbroody26 · 19/07/2012 15:33

I think eve has a better flow to it, but it depends how often you will be using the name in full, if you will rarely use the 3 names together i'd go for the one with the most family connections.
