I love both of these - just wonder if Rufus a bit 'posh' - we are not! (and we don't have red hair but that doesn't bother me). Opinions very welcome.

Rufous is fine for a dog.

exoticfruits · 18/07/2012 22:29

Sorry Rufus

emmyloo2 · 19/07/2012 04:29

Absolutely love both, but if you are more adventurous then go Rufus. It is a fabulous name. I don't connect the red haired thing to Rufus....

And I think definitely both suit an adult, particularly Rufus. I can definitely imagine an adult Rufus.

thundernlightning · 19/07/2012 05:08

Oh, I think they're both lovely. But if he's a red head, then Rufus for sure!

EdithWeston · 19/07/2012 06:06

I think a Rufus needs to be red haired, or strawberry blond, or have black hair and very, very ruddy cheeks. Any of those colourings strongly in both family trees? If not, then Henry.

Henry (DS)

PepperOnMyPaprikash · 19/07/2012 08:49

Thanks all. I do love Rufus...

"Rufus stands out more - you don't come across many - so if you're the shy, retiring sort, you might want to pick Henry.
In my opinion the person makes the name, not the other way round. So if you are a shy introverted Rufus then that is what people associate with the name, not the other way round.

I meant that if mum and dad are shy, they might want to go for Henry as it won't provoke responses of, 'Oh, that's an unusual choice. Who's he named after? Where'd you hear that one then?' If you're shy and therefore just want to blend in, you would probably feel happier choosing a commonplace name for your child. That said, what you wrote makes sense and I agree with you.

Another vote for Rufus. I have one. He is blond. I have had lovely comments about the name.

baskingseals · 19/07/2012 08:59

love Rufus, much prefer it to Henry

congratulations Grin

Nemonemo · 19/07/2012 14:51

I love both of these and have one of them. How about Rupert? Similar vein?

shimmy0 · 19/07/2012 15:50

Neither but if I had to choose it would be Henry. I think a previous poster is right in saying they are kids names not adult names, but I would only really associate that with Rufus,

DottieRose · 19/07/2012 19:55

How is Henry and Rufus kids names that is such a ridiculous statement! They are both beautiful names that would work well from childhood right through to adulthood! My pick would be Henry!

VolAuVent · 19/07/2012 20:11

Henry VIII and Rufus Sewell might disagree that they're children's names.

TeaandHobnobs · 19/07/2012 20:17

My BILs! And they are both a bit posh Wink

Rufus is more unusual than Henry, I would say, but Rufus has often been mocked for having a "dog's name"! Not helped by his dad often calling him Bertie by mistake, which WAS the dog's name!

Roo has many sweet nicknames given by his adoring female fans friends at university

PepperOnMyPaprikash · 19/07/2012 20:57

Roo is very cute for a baby/toddler.

Hmm. Still can't decide though I am leaning towards Rufus at the moment.

Thank you all for your opinions - pretty much all positive which is very encouraging.

I have a Rufus Grin ... atm his sisters call him Rooster. Don't think he's bothered Wink to the rest of the world he's Rufus or Rufe.
