i like jago and peran :)

my dd is merryn so a bit biased there Grin but steren an rosen are also nice :) and elowen :)

littlemissbroody26 · 18/07/2012 10:54

I like peran and merryn (but not as a sibling set!)

minipie · 18/07/2012 10:59

Lots of nice names. Not sure about Treeve, Jenifry or Steren as they look a bit like typos of more well known names?

I especially like Jago, Jory, Elowen, Lamorna, Merryn and Talwyn

NaturalNatures · 18/07/2012 11:04

Jago and Elowen

Jory, Kitto, Rosen, Steren, Morwena, Merryn are lovely aswell.

They're all lovely though never heard cornish names before some are very similar to welsh names. Where do you find the history/meanings of cornish names?

Dogsmom · 18/07/2012 11:07

I know a Corwen

Stellan · 18/07/2012 11:35

Some nice picks. Like the earlier poster, I'd avoid the ones that look awkward when compared to their more popular versions (e.g. Seren is much more popular than Steren so Steren may look like a typo).

Elowen, Lowenna, and Merryn are nice and I like Loveday for a middle name. I'm not familiar with many of the others you listed.

I like Jago and Tristan although I didn't realise Tristan was Cornish! I'm not sure about the others - I've only known Kitto as a surname but it might be a nice nickname for Christian or Christopher though.

Kerensa is probably my favourite Cornish name - any thoughts?

CornishKK · 18/07/2012 11:36

Digory was on my list if DD had been another DS.

anicecuppatea · 18/07/2012 12:10

Natural - they're mostly googleable (if that's a word?!) and there are also various books e.g. www.amazon.co.uk/Names-Cornish-Three-Hundred-First/dp/1850221227/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1342609413&sr=1-1

Lots do sound similar to Welsh as the two languages have similar roots. Same goes for Breton names, I believe.

Love Digory and Loveday too!

Am I right in thinking Kai/ Cai is also a Cornish name? thats becomming popular. maybe its just because it makes me think of trendy surfers?!
I prefer the least awkward sounding ones

MoonHare · 18/07/2012 18:08

From your list I like:
Jago
Perran/Piran/Peran - prob prefer Perran as a spelling
Tristan

Lamorna
Loveday
Lowenna
Merryn
Morwenna

Also like Veryan and is Petroc a Cornish boys name?

We had a holiday in Cornwall in June and I saw a 'Cornish baby names' book in a National Trust gift shop while we were there.

bronze · 18/07/2012 18:11

I have a very cool friend called treeve

bigbadbarry · 18/07/2012 18:13

Off the top of my head you have missed Denzel and Tamsin.

RoaringTwenties · 19/07/2012 10:30

Really pleased to see this thread as I want a Cornish middle name for DD who is due in Oct. I particularly like names with 'Z' in, like Zennor, so if anyone has any more I'd love to hear them. I think Veryan is lovely, I've spent time there and it's one of the nicest places on earth. Like Kerenza/Carenza but OH has a colleague by the name so not sure. I've just ordered the book of 300 Cornish Baby Names online so will see what that provides!

anicecuppatea · 19/07/2012 15:24

Roaring - there's also Zelah, pronounced Zee-lah. Another place name?

OP posts:
Sastra · 19/07/2012 15:26

Lyley and Demelza (both girls).

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/07/2012 15:30

They are all lovely IMO.

My imaginary daughter is called Loveday (I have had 3 boys!)

NormanTheForeman · 19/07/2012 15:42

I have met a Rumon (male) who is Cornish.

LiteraryMermaid · 19/07/2012 16:30

I love Cornish names - they sound so romantic and evocative! Sadly have no Cornish connections whatsoever, so would feel like a bit of a fraud if I used one. I like Jago, Tristan and Veryan for boys and Elowen, Lamorna, Loveday, Merryn and Morwenna for girls.

Have come across a Demelza and a Kerensa as well, although the latter was a extremely dim work experience student, which did put me off a bit! Am I right in thinking that Petroc and Pascoe are also Cornish? And Tamsin/Tamasin? And there's also Senara (a saint and alternative name for Zennor, I believe?).

Tigertots · 19/07/2012 17:37

I agree with Stellan about Kerensa.

I believe Rosenwyn means "fair rose", and "Morenwyn" means "fair maiden"? So those names have got a lot going for them!

RoaringTwenties · 19/07/2012 19:51

anicecuppatea - thanks for that, another lovely one, in fact I think I prefer Zelah to Zennor :-) (can't work out how to do proper smileys, only just registered today!) The only prob is that the first name that we've pretty much decided on ends in an 'a' sound, so don't think Zennor or Zelah would work brilliantly (should have said this in my earlier post perhaps - didn't want it to be too long for a first one!)

Am looking forward to receiving the 300 Cornish names book!

sashh · 20/07/2012 03:54

My favorite Cornish boy's name is Jowan.

vickyliz · 20/07/2012 17:22

My Cornish God-Daughter is called Mailli, (pronounced Maylee)!

phlebas · 20/07/2012 21:07

I love pretty much all of them, dd2's middle name is Loveday (secretly my favourite of all my children's names ;) )

Love all the names, we have chosen a cornish name for DS...will be Ruan Isaac.
Friends daughter is called Kerris (Cornish for Love) and have other friends with 3 cornish named children....Jago, Mawgan and Llowen. Also like Morwenna for a girl.
I have a nephew with the middle name Denzil and sister called Tamsin, so a fan of Cornish names Smile.
Lovejoy for a boy is also an option but not one for me.
