Clover?

Currently pg with DC3 and considering this if baby is a DD...love all the flower names (Rose, Lily, Daisy, Poppy etc) but they are all soooo popular now and Clover is pretty but seems far more unusual, IYSWIM. Another one I quite like is Violet but when I skim read quickly I always read it as Violent which puts me off Confused

I have two boys who have quite traditional (and therefore very popular) names and would quite like something a little quirkier if this baby does turn out to be a girl...also it would nn to 'Chloe' quite easily if she wanted in the future.

So what do people think of Clover as a name? Nice? Pretty? Too cutesy/chavvy or nicely feminine/stylish? One of those which would suit a little girl but not a stroppy teenager or adult? Or is it a name more suited to a pet than a human?! (will reserve for a future guinea pig if that is the case Grin)

The thing is I've never actually met any Clovers (and neither my mum or sister have ever taught one/told me horror stories about one ), so I have no preconceptions at all about the name other than the fact that I loved it when I read the 'What Katy Did' books years ago.

Would love to hear opinions...Smile

I love this name but it was vetoed by dh whose response was "I can't believe it's not butter" Angry

IHeartKingThistle · 17/07/2012 21:40

Everyone here is going to hate it if this morning's Blossom/Meadow twatfest was anything to go by Grin

I LOVE it, AND I have taught one ... who was lovely. Bingo!

AnnaNimitty · 17/07/2012 21:43

Its sounds Ok but I don't think clover is a particularly attractive flower, in
fact its rather ugly, which you might care to bear in mind.

Roseformeplease · 17/07/2012 21:45

Sorry, sounds like the name of a pet cow. Love Chloe, though. Why not just use that.

derekthehamster · 17/07/2012 21:45

Clover is lovely utterly buttery lovely It is nice though.

threeandcounting · 17/07/2012 21:50

I think it's a lovely name (think it's also quite a pretty flower too Grin)

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 17/07/2012 21:51

I wanted to call dd1 Clover, after Katy's sister from What Katy Did.
I love it, think it's lovely and sweet.

exoticfruits · 17/07/2012 21:55

I can't get past the fact my Uncle's cow was called Clover- along with Buttercup. Agree that Chloe is better.

FuckerSnailInYourHedgerow · 17/07/2012 21:55

I love it, ever since reading 'What Katy Did'. DH thinks it is NOT a name. The twat. Also love Violet, DH thinksit is a colour, and not a name. The tit.

fluffywhitekittens · 17/07/2012 21:59

"roll me over in the clover, roll me over, lay me down and do it again" Wink

Badgerina · 17/07/2012 23:57

Like it. Unusual.

CointreauVersial · 18/07/2012 00:00

Nice!

I loved "What Katy Did".

msrantsalot · 18/07/2012 00:01

its a butter substitute. why do all you peeps on mumsnet talk about names? when baby comes you will know the name, trust me you will. She will be her own person and the name will just come. Don't go with any preconceptions, look into her eyes and you will instinctively know her name.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 18/07/2012 00:03

My immediate thought was butter too, sorry! I like Chloe though. For some reason the name Nina just popped into my head as an alternative. Not sure where that came from but such a pretty name!

thisisyesterday · 18/07/2012 00:09

msrantsalot

i tried that with ds3. he was nameless for 5 weeks
for 5 weeks we argued constantly over his name

no-one knew what his name was. he certainly didn't, on account of being a newborn baby

darkfever · 18/07/2012 00:16

Clover sounds like a name for a cow. Sorry.

DottieRose · 18/07/2012 00:18

I like it

Declutterbug · 18/07/2012 00:31

Moo Blush

Declutterbug · 18/07/2012 00:34

What about Hebe? Or Willow, Iris, Lilac, Zinnia?

iheartmycat · 18/07/2012 01:02

I know 2 Clover's, they're both lovely. They're also cats.

It would be a lovely guinea pig name tho :)

MardyBra · 18/07/2012 01:26

Wasn't there are rabbit called Clover in Watership Down.

sleeplessinsuburbia · 18/07/2012 01:58

When we found out in pregnancy our dd was sick and may not live long we named her clover with the imagery of luck through search/effort and hope. It was perfect, we didn't even consider another name. I like that it is a 'humble' plant and I have spent hours in my life searching for the lucky four leaf!

goodasgold · 18/07/2012 02:15

Sleeps I have clover growing out my patch and I always look for the four leaf for my friend.

I think Clover is a very pretty name. Don't be fooled by the people that would say it's OK for baby. If your grown woman Clover has balls she will be fine, the name is nothing, the personality is everything. Have fun with your baby.

DumSpiroSpero · 18/07/2012 02:23

I think it would grow on people (pardon the pun) very quickly and it's nice that you don't have any preconceptions about it.

I can quite easily imagine a hormonal, teenage Clover for some reason, so I wouldn't worry too much about that aspect!

herecomesthsun · 18/07/2012 02:31

On the one hand, does bring a cow to mind. On the other hand, have seen it used v recently. And if you like it, that is what counts.
