Okay, so DH and I both really love the name Orphelia. We know it's not all that common, but is it just 'too much'?

Way too much.

I think it's fab and wouldn't hesitate to use it.
My DD has a sensibly out there name, like Ophelia [sorry, but can I just make sure you mean Ophelia = the one from shakespere? Not Orphelia what sounds like it's being said by someone from the West country? Grin]

My mum told me, when my DD was born, to make sure I said my DDs name with absolute confidence. As soon as you show weakness, people think Hmm. It felt strange calling her her name at first, probably in the way that calling her Isabelle or Anna wouldnt, but now it's 'her'.

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 16/07/2012 00:34

If you like it it doesn't matter what others think Smile

SchmancyPants · 16/07/2012 00:35

I like it, but the usual spelling is Ophelia.

EightiesChick · 16/07/2012 00:38

Please say that was a typo putting the r in there. 'Different' spellings are not good. As long a it's the standard spelling 'Ophelia', then it is unusual, yes, but I've heard a lot worse so go for it if you like it.

manicinsomniac · 16/07/2012 01:14

I went to school with an Ophelia (she moved from Ghana, I don't know if it's more popular over there). Never heard it anywhere else. I like it though and don't think it's too much.

If you actually do mean Orphelia I don't think it's even a name.

megandraper · 16/07/2012 01:19

Is Orphelia a combination of Orpheus and Ophelia?

I suppose if you're mis-typing it that might be an indication of how many people will mis-spell it in the future!

Though we have given DD a name which has several different spellings so she will be having to correct people on hers forever too.

Krumbum · 16/07/2012 02:16

Ophelia is really pretty. Go for it.

bigbluebump · 16/07/2012 07:10

Ophelia is lovely. Beautiful, classic name that isn't overused (yet).

puds11 · 16/07/2012 07:19

I knew a drag queen called ophelia balls, so that name is pretty much ruined for me.

exoticfruits · 16/07/2012 07:26

Ophelia is lovely but I wouldn't put an 'r' in it.

ripsishere · 16/07/2012 07:29

Ophelia is lovely, Orphelia is odd and my spell checker has put red wiggles under it, so it can't be a proper name

JodieHarsh · 16/07/2012 07:38

It's a beautiful, beautiful name - if attached to a very sad tale!

FGS though, you have to spell it correctly.

I assume you are aware of where it comes from? (Only asking 'cos of the errant 'r' Grin )

tiddleypompom · 16/07/2012 08:16

A drowned woman. Couldn't shake the attachment to a sad start personally - pretty name otherwise.

tiddleypompom · 16/07/2012 08:16

*sad story.
