Albie maybe a bit "cute", although the South African cricketer Albie Morkel carries it off well. Gideon makes me think of those bibles you get in hotel rooms. Abram is nice - I have a distant relative with this name.

Mollydoggerson · 15/07/2012 18:23

Albie - lovely, cute for a baby, Al/Albert strong for a man, not a fan of Bertie.
Gideon - hmmm, a very firm name, not soft or easily shortened, bit too austere for me.
Abram - yes I like it, I immediately imagine it would be popular withing a very religious community.

NormanTheForeman....what kind of reactions has your relative got to his name, if any??? Smile

I'm not sure, I don't know him very well. He is a young man though, in his 20s, and seems fairly confident.

phoenixrose314 · 15/07/2012 18:48

I like the name Gideon, I have known two Gideons who have been lovely, devoted and loyal hubbys :)

VolAuVent · 15/07/2012 19:59

I like Abram best of the three.

Albie too cutesy, Gideon too stern.

TheTeardropExplodes · 15/07/2012 20:16

Albie - prefer Albert, with Albie as nn.

Abram - I like it.

Gideon - makes me think of the Bible people.

Viviennemary · 15/07/2012 20:20

Albert very nice
Abram - is this meant to be a form of Abraham or a totally different name. Never heard of it. Not keen
Gideon. Not keen

MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 15/07/2012 20:31

I know a little Gideon, his mum yells "Giddy up, Gideon!" Grin

I think Abram is a bit too close to Abraham.

Albie too nicknamey.

DottieRose · 15/07/2012 21:47

Abram is gorgeous

ThePigOnTheWall · 15/07/2012 21:53

Oh god not Gideon! It's George Osbourne's real name and even he had enough shame to abondon it! Shock

NormanTheForeman · 17/07/2012 00:25

The Abram in my family has a dad called Abraham. The Abram says his name A - Brahm if that's any help.

bigbluebump · 17/07/2012 08:02

Abram and Gideon are good solid classic names that won't date. I know a Gideon who is lovely.

Albie, along with Archie, is very cutesy and trendy and will feel dated soon imo. Not keen personally.

EdithWeston · 17/07/2012 08:15

I'd use the usual full forms on BC for both Abram and Albie, but think both are lovely names for day to day. Gideon is OK.

happymumof3 · 17/07/2012 12:28

Pig on the wall- not polite

I have a six year old Gideon and am therefore completely bias and think its a lovely name. it does get shortened to Giddy by his best friend and some of the older girls in his brothers class but at six its kind of cute.

Littlecherublegs · 17/07/2012 12:29

Abram is my fav out of these.

Albie is a bit too cutesy - ok for a baby but doesnt seem right for a grown man?!

Not keen on Gideon, sorry.

PineappleBed · 17/07/2012 12:38

Love Gideon!

I misread albie (nn for Albert?) for the name ailbe. I personally don't like very cutsy names because if he's very small built it'll fit but might be a bit funny to other people if he's 6'7" and rugby build*. I also think giving the fuller version of a name gives them the op to choose their own nn.

  • thought this since I met a 5'10" steel toes cap wearing violent girl called daisy.
mayanna123 · 17/07/2012 14:15

I would avoid Albie/Archie/Alfie type names - these cutesy names have been so trendy that I feel they will soon sound dated.

Both Gideon and Abraham are lovely! Classic, strong and not overused (yet)!

IawnCont · 17/07/2012 14:50

I would use Albus. I really would.
