Really like the name Isla Grace if we end up with a girl (chose to stay team yellow). Just interested in what the name conjures up for people. Although conscious that I may well regret asking...!

I know of two Isla's born in the past few months, one is an Isla Grace. Very pretty name but getting popular, which may or may not be an issue for you.

gingermcflea · 15/07/2012 11:03

Nice and pretty.
Personally, I would change the middle name to something a bit more unusual, unless it has special significance to you. Grace has been a very popular middle name for a few years now, and along with Rose, Mae/May, etc, it seems to me to be a bit of a filler type name.
But it's popular for a reason, and Isla Grace is a very nice combination.

iloveACK · 15/07/2012 11:05

Beautiful names but I know 2 (different groups of friends). Seems to be a popular combination!

goingtoofast · 15/07/2012 11:05

It does sound nice but Grace, Rose and Mai are really popular middle names and I do find the use of them very unoriginal.

MammaTonic · 15/07/2012 11:07

I love it! Popular (that's not a criticism) and bootiful!

Not overly bothered by increasing popularity, but would be a bit upset to eventually find she was one of a silly number in her class. Although when I was at secondary school, I was one of 3 with the same name and spelling in mine and never really batted an eyelid about it. DH loves the name Poppy, which I also really like, but just can't imagine a tomboyish teen or a 40-odd year old with it. But gorgeous for a little girl/old lady!

Go for Isla Poppy then!

Agree that Rose and May/Mae are v popular middle names and had been kind of steering away from those, but didn't realise the same was true of Grace. Just think they sound lovely together. Plus I had a Great Aunt Grace who never had any children so felt it was kind of nice nice to use it...

Lovely names in their own right or together .
Good luck with everything!

PerfectStranger74 · 15/07/2012 11:19

Isla Grace is beautiful, I don't think you would ever regret that choice.

Poppy is my aunt's dog's name.

anicecuppatea · 15/07/2012 11:20

Ooh, liking the extra middle name maples. We have a one syllable last name so wouldn't be too much of a mouthful. Plus your description of strong and timeless is exactly what I'm trying to achieve.

The three you suggested all feature in my family tree so would be a nice touch. I also had visions of working something Cornish in there too (again, family connections) but there aren't that many girls names that sound feminine and not too harsh. Quite like Elowen, Lamorna, and of course there's Lowenna and Morwenna, but adding this element might not make it hang together very well. Would rather get the 'main' bit right, although could work better as Isla Grace x x, rather than Isla x Grace x?

Brilliant choice!

My DD is 14 months and she is Isla Victoria-May {surname}
Middle name is made up of my mothers middle name and my partners mother who is deceased so kind of a tribute to her.

She is a very smiley girl and already has a nickname "Smiler Isla" lol
I had the name picked before she was concieved, its pretty without being chavvy.

boyfallingoutofthesky · 25/07/2012 16:46

I very nearly called my daughter Isla Grace 4 years ago and am now very glad I didn't - the combination has become ridiculously popular! So, contrary to another poster's comment,I do think it is a name you could regret when you pitch up at play group and find a multitude of other Isla Graces there. My daughter has a name very similar to the original choice, and I do sometimes regret that the name Isla has become so over popular in the last couple of years. In summary then, I obviously think it is a lovely name but unless you really do not mind if she is one of four in a class I would look for something else (of course, you may not mind - lots of people don't!)

mojo1981 · 25/07/2012 23:09

Who gives a sh*t if she is one of 5 Islas or whatever variation you want to use, they wont have the same face, personality or anything, we all share our names with someone else, everything goes in trends but that doesnt mean its a bad thing!

there were 5 victorias in my class when i was a kid but they were all completely different i think its silly that people worry about naming thier child something thats popular, you name your child something you like, and that suits them, regardless off popularity, its all personal choice.

sorry, dont mean to cause offence to anyone, just this kind of thing gets on my nerves lol

rant over

scottishmummy · 25/07/2012 23:24

chose popular names so long as you're not bothered being islaA,islaB,islaC
if it bothers then not chose a popular name

kerala · 25/07/2012 23:31

I don't think it is silly to be worried about the popularity of a name. Its a personal choice may not bother you mojo but bothers me. ONe third of the girls in DDs class have the same name confusing and not great for them.

boyfallingoutofthesky · 26/07/2012 09:34

Mojo - was only pointing it out as (like me) lots of first time mums are unaware of trending baby names until they use one they think is unusual (usually for their generation) only to then find it is top ten now. So I think some (not all) people may appreciate having this highlighted to them before they make a decision. Judging by people on here (admittedly not a representative sample) it is an issue for a number of people, and although I take your point that we are all different despite our names I am sure most people, given the choice, would rather their child was not one of several **s in a class.

shimmy0 · 26/07/2012 09:45

Not Poppy! It's something I would call a pet.
