Dd has come up with Jasper for her soon-to-be brother. It's growing on all of us but I'd like to know if anyone has one and if so what's the nickname? I'm off out but will be back this evening - thanks in advance!

cece · 14/07/2012 17:56

I was going to say wasps as well. Lol. Please don't call him jasper.

thegreylady · 14/07/2012 19:33

Jazz

Anonymumous · 14/07/2012 20:03

Definitely Jazz. (Well, we had a cat called Jasper and he was nicknamed Jazz.)

ChickensHaveNoLips · 14/07/2012 20:04

My dog is called Jasper. We call him Jas, and Jasperino

PuppyMonkey · 14/07/2012 20:05

I don't get wasps (Blush

Jasper is a lovely name.

hectorthestandbyhawk · 14/07/2012 20:29

Jasper is slang for wasp.

AntsMarching · 14/07/2012 20:31

My grandfather was named Jasper. His nn was Jack.

BikeRunSki · 14/07/2012 20:34

Jasmine

I would also not use it because of the wasp thing.

Whitershadeofpale · 14/07/2012 20:38

I think the wasp thing is very regional. I live in London and had never heard of it before mn.

It's my surname and I'm often called by my last name or jasp.

LuellaLovesLavender · 14/07/2012 20:43

Jasper is a stunning name and from what I gather it's only slang for wasps in certain parts of the country! Sure even if some people use it as slang for wasps that's not really a big deal....wasps aren't exactly offensive...now Johnny, Dick, Fanny et al that would be unfortunate!

PuppyMonkey · 14/07/2012 20:47

Jasper is not and has never been slang for wasps where i live. HmmConfused

LeeCoakley · 14/07/2012 20:49

Carrott.

Nospringflower · 14/07/2012 20:50

therumoursaretrue · 14/07/2012 20:50

The Jasper I know gets Jazz.

forevergreek · 14/07/2012 21:30

i have heard JJ as a nickname

Idlegirl83 · 14/07/2012 21:32

We call wasps jaspers down 'ere in the south!

thereistheball · 14/07/2012 23:11

I'd never heard of the wasps thing at all. Thanks! Not sure it's put me off though. How possible is it to engineer a child's nickname? I'm not keen on Jas/Jazz but Jay would be fine.

hey luella one of those names is my DS name!

hectorthestandbyhawk · 14/07/2012 23:30

You could call him Jesper - that's even deeper lentil weaver. I got taken on a mushroom hunt by a Jesper.

LCarbury · 14/07/2012 23:32

Don't all boys end up being called by their surname in the playground anyway eventually? I think he would be called "Jasper" in primary and e.g. "Smithy" in secondary school.

hectorthestandbyhawk · 14/07/2012 23:32

Learn about the effects of Jaspers

Badgerina · 15/07/2012 06:38

Jesper is technically pn Yesper, since it's the Dutch/Euro spelling.

Not keen on Jasper. Don't like Jazz as nn. Prefer Caspar. Beautiful name.
