What do people think of the name Amelie? Do you know many? How would you say it? Thanks!

I know several. I don't like it (sorry) because to me it smacks of people trying to be "a bit continental" following the film of the same name. I prefer English names like Amelia and Emily. I have heard it pronounced "A-meh-lee".

Lovely. I only know one but she is adorable, so maybe I'm biased in favour.

am-el-ie. considered it for DD. i quite liked it - until i met one, but dont let that put you off . think there are also a few cropping up at nursery so may be getting more popular?

To answer part 2 of the Q I would say A-meh-lee. The one I know is more often known as Amie (a-mee).

Sorry OP, but I agree with LaGuerta. Its a very nice name but I do hear that thought in the back of my mind when I hear it.

If you take a look at baby naming stats, it's very clear that there was a massive rise in the number of Amelies after the film came out. Barely used before that.

I know a tiny one, pronounced A-meh-lee. She's cute, but don't think much of the name. Just sounds like 'Emily' wasn't fancy-sounding enough. Also increasingly common.

I'd pronounce it ah-mee-lee. I think it's a very pretty name and very feminine. It's a popular name, but with good reason I think.

They were slightly concerned about naming her it as they thought it might sound a bit too 'foreign' and people would get it wrong saying Amelia or Emily all the time. I would have the same concerns and wouldnt go for it myself - however, they obviously did and seem happy!

I considered it for my dd (now age 8) as I really liked it. I am quite pleased I didn't use it though as I have met lots of Amelies in that time.

I'd say it as it's said in the film, because I just think of it as a French name. So A-meh-lee too. Otherwise, it just sounds like Emily.

It makes me think of Madeline McCann - I think it's her sister's name.

I love it and if we have a second dd it'll be a top contender as our dd1 is Elodie which is also French, and my sister is Emily.

I like emilie .. I may have made it up but someone recently sent me a text saying they have named their daughter that and I though lovely . E-mee..lee .... But no , it was a poncey way of spelling Emily ... Meh!!
