Do yuo like it?

Is it granny chic or will it work over all ages/careers?

I think if you're putting Elizabeth on her birth certificate you can make her nickname whatever you like!

Our DD is Betsy and it's worked so far, but as an insurance policy we've put Elizabeth on her birth cert in case she gets to 40, is a doctor and feels a bit silling being a betsy.

Plus, you'll be surprised she may not get called Ebbie in the end. At our DD nursery 3 years ago someone started calling her Betsy Boo, and now a whole group of us call her Boo, DH and I included.

Ebbie is very sweet, i say go for it with the Elizabeth insurance policy.

You can use whatever nickname you like! And, as Lord said, they evolve often outside of your control.

Personally I like Elizabeth and Beth but am getting a little bored of the current fashion for cutesy names (Ebbie, Tilly, Milly, Poppy etc...).

DD is an Elizabeth. She gets called Bumbles... Confused

I like Ebbie, but, with the surge of Evies etc, I think Ebbie might get lost and misheard among that group.

I coach an Ebbie short for nothing. It's lovely.

Tigertots · 04/07/2012 11:18

I've heard many nicknames for Elizabeth, but never Ebbie.

Of the archaic Elizabeth nns, I've always liked Bessie, but can't stand Betty; Betsy = somewhere in between.

VolAuVent · 04/07/2012 11:53

I don't really like Ebbie, sorry. There's just something about the "Eb" sound. Ebbing away, Ebola, Ebenezer Scrooge. It's better than Ezzie though, which is harsh, and it makes a change from Ellie.

Bess, Beth and Lizzie are my favourite nicknames for Elizabeth. But it's not up to me of course! Choose whatever you like best :)

birdofthenorth · 04/07/2012 12:28

Could work. If you can have Libby why not Ebby?

I have a Bess short for Elizabeth and also love Betsy, Elsie, Ella (though so popular) and Eliza. Starting to love Lizzy too despite not having been keen in the past.

dillnameddog · 04/07/2012 14:28

I planned my dds' nn very carefully. Never used either of the ones I chose - they both ended up with the easiest shortening of their names (which were actually quite ugly!)

mewkins · 04/07/2012 22:28

Dd is an Elizabeth with the nn Lizzie, though she is occasionally called Eliza, Betty (particularly when sweaty!), bess, etc. Most know her as Lizzie though and are sometimes surprised at her proper name for some reason.

mathanxiety · 05/07/2012 06:07

I have a relative whose name is Elizabeth with Ebbie for short. Lovely (and unusual) imo. Another relative uses Lizzie as a nn, and I love that too.

manicinsomniac · 05/07/2012 09:38

I'm not a big fan of Elizabeth but Ebbie is a really cute nickname.
