I love these names but wonder if they are too wierd. A few people have said Emmerdale about Amos but I don't watch it so I don't care :)

I also like Nathaniel which I know is a lot less controversial, but it's defo my third choice.

Thoughts? (Be nice)

Don't like Rufus at all but Amos is just gorgeous!!! I had been considering it until my mother said he would forever get called anus by other kids Sad I still love it! Has anybody with a ds Amos had any experience with this???

It's a family name to me, Uncles & great uncles & I've never heard it become "Anus" before Confused - Moss or Mossa apparently for a while at school, but AFAIK its mostly not been abbreviated at all

My 5 year old is Amos, and we have never had that problem. He sometimes gets called Moss, or Mossy. In America they seem to pronounce it Ay-mus (if Murder She Wrote is anything to go by!), but we say Ay-moss, so sounds nothing like anus.

No no no to Amos (sorry tummytickler). I went out with a guy called Amos when I was a teenager (outing myself here, there cant be too many!). He HATED his name, was constantly teased about emmerdale, a mosquito jokes, being called Anus etc etc. Rufus is lovely though.

Love Amos!

But Amos sounds nothing like anus, does it Confused. What about Will becoming Willy - that is MUCH more likely imo.

Amos sounds quite like Anus, they can rhyme after all, depending on how it is pronounced. Just saying that my ex was called Anus a lot in school, hopefully your child wont!

Rufus is great. Amos makes me think of the village idiot.

Nathaniel I think is a bit chavvy

Nathaniel-chavvy?

Oh dear Lord, I´ve heard it all now.

IMO-names aren´t chavvy-people are!

Nathaniel makes me think of Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Confused Its pronounced AMOSS - not A MUSS

Yeah, as in a mosquito. Try telling that to schoolkids rhyming it with Anus though, they wont listen.

I love Amos. By the time he is older, nobody will be watching Emmerdale so I really wouldn't worry about that.

When I saw Amos I immediately thought of the knock knock joke, sorry.

Ha ha to A-mosquito but if that's the worst that anyone ever says to him in school then he'll be luckier than DH and I ever were! I'm not too worried about Amos-Anus as they sound pretty different. I kind of like Moss and Mossy as nicknames, they're cute.

I love Seth but it's BIL's favourite boys name so I can't steal it. Imagine cousins called Seth and Amos - good job they won't be living near each other!
