What I find odd is the use of Jaime, pronounced Jamie. How did that come about?

NarkedRaspberry · 03/07/2012 15:10

Trying to dictate a NN at senior school, no. 'Dictating' what the family call them, fine. It's always been done. Particularly when people had more children, used family names and used to call their first DS after his father. After all, the child's parents (and the government) are the ones who know what's on the BC. Everyone else takes the parent's word for it.

Grin at OBA.

Jaime is Spanish.

OhBuggerArse - yes, that's so odd! Watching Game of Thrones and it's so annoying when they call Jaime Lannister Jamie. Wrong wrong wrong.

My James is 12mnths he is James on bc ,Jamie to mummy ,jim to daddy. I do think Jamie is recognised as a stand alone name but love the way if you have james he can be James , Jamie or jim.

Definitely the same - it would be really weird to have two DSs named James and Jamie.

exoticfruits · 04/07/2012 19:21

Jamie is a nickname. I know a James who had it on his birth certificate but his parents always called him Jamie and intended him to be Jamie for life. When he got to about 8yrs he insisted on James-so always best to give the choice.

AgathaTrunchbull · 04/07/2012 19:49

James and Jamie are entirely the same name. Much better to give the child an option for later in life by putting a sensible fully name on their birth certificate.

darkfever · 04/07/2012 22:49

I see Jamie as a nickname for James.

imsotired · 04/07/2012 22:51

I dont think i'd ever see twins called Jamie and James - unless they were a boy and a girl

darkfever · 04/07/2012 22:56

I think it's be bizarre to see boy / girl twins called Jamie and James.

Bit like Stephen & Stephanie, Robert and Roberta, Christopher & Christina etc etc. Like the parents could only think of one name they liked, so used it for both children Hmm
