3 long names, too much?

We found out today DS3 is on the way!

First name will be Johnathan.

We want both out fathers to be in there too so that would mean 2 long middle names.

So do you think Johnathan Kenneth Nicholas is just too much? Surname is a very short, 1 syllable name (think "Man")

Opinions very welcome.

It's fine, and it flows quite well.

TiddlyBears · 02/07/2012 17:19

Middle names are very rarely used for anything apart from passports, my son has two long-ish middle names too. It's the sentimental value that counts!

I think your proposed name sounds nice :)

jaffacakehips · 02/07/2012 20:33

No not at all. I think it sounds lovely.

Congrats on DS3!

pearlgirl · 02/07/2012 20:37

Think it sounds lovely. All my boys have 2 middle names - all 8 of which have sentimental reasons attached to them.

VolAuVent · 02/07/2012 21:56

It sounds a nice combination.

Badgerina · 02/07/2012 22:21

Sounds great! Go for it Smile

Stellan · 03/07/2012 09:20

I think it's too long and Johnathan is a peculiar spelling of Jonathan.

SoozyWoozy · 03/07/2012 11:39

I agree with Stellan - it is very long, but as you rarely use all 3 names it'll probably be OK. Is there enough room on a passport form?!

Also, the spelling... he will forever be correcting the usual spelling of Jonathon / Jonathan to Johnathan.

belgo · 03/07/2012 11:42

Apart from the unusual spelling of the first name, the name is fine.

imnotmymum · 03/07/2012 11:42

We have a daughter with long name and surname sort of rolls beautifully when said altogether. Sound lovely My DF is Johnathan.

birdofthenorth · 03/07/2012 12:28

Bit muchf for my taste but ok with your surname. Still too long for some forms though, which may be a pain. Would you consider abbreviating one middle name to Ken or Nick?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 03/07/2012 12:31

My dd has 3 names, each name has 3 syllables. I has never been an issue,

Yeah your spelling is a bit wacky.

imnotmymum · 03/07/2012 12:44

Spelling not wacky at all it perfectly normal to spell Johnathon as it is.

3boysgirlontheway · 03/07/2012 12:49

DD is Florence Beatrice Primrose - it works!

TheWave · 03/07/2012 14:34

Long middle names are fine. They have a lovely idea behind them. I do find the first name spelling awkward to look at, but perhaps you have your reasons for this too?

squoosh · 03/07/2012 14:40

I have never met a Jonathan who spelt it Johnathon. Why set him up for a lifetime of 'Actually it's spelt . . . . . . '?

Ephiny · 03/07/2012 14:45

Maybe the spelling was just a typo...or do you actually intend to spell it that way? There are no rules about names, but unusual spellings of common names can be more trouble than they're worth.

I think the combination is fine, it's not as though you're going to say all three names for everyday use!

LemonEmmaP · 03/07/2012 14:51

My own name is similar in terms of the syllables involved - 3 then 2, 2 and my maiden name was 1 syllable. (My married name has 3 - I added more complication!). I think your suggested names sound great together.

weasar · 03/07/2012 14:51

Names are all lovely together, but agree with the others about the spelling of Jonathan

IawnCont · 03/07/2012 14:54

Johnathon looks very odd indeed and a bit "we spelt it like this to be different".

Jonathan Kenneth Nicholas, OTOH, is a wonderful name. And though Jonathan isn't uncommon, it's rare in babies and small children these days. :)

TitsalinaBumSquash · 03/07/2012 14:59

Thanks for all re replies. Smile

The spelling comes from the males on my maternal line, all registered Johnathan but known as John or Johnny which this child will be.

I think it sounds lovely.

Although I do agree that Johnathan looks peculiar. But if it's a traditional spelling in your family, then I respect your decision.
