So I was horrified when I read on here that Minnie is also a name for ladygarden.... I've never heard of this nor have any or my friends.

I live in Scotland and although not a popular name it is a traditional scottish name and it appears a few times in my family tree so I had concidered it if my next is a DD.. then I saw the horror on here.

What I'd really like to know is how wide spread is this meaning..

So can I ask if you personaly know the word Minnie as a lady garden or not and state what area you are from? ie scotland/north east or west/ wales/ south east or west, midlands ect.

I'll start

Thanks in advance!

And people do use fanny so I really wouldn't worry about it!

Mary, Minne, Tuppence, Penny, Fanny are used here. (West Midlands)

I know of a little girl called Mary and Minnie and Penny are both on my future girl's list. Never associated it with ladygarden parts. Have associated Penny with Penny Crayon and Minnie with Minnie Mouse and Mary with Jesus' Mum!

aware of the meaning for a " lady garden" never heard it used by anyone though (South East)

Love it as a name and love the meaning

I had never heard of the association until coming on here, but it is rife on here. Minnie isn't to my taste, but if it were, I'd be put off by the fact that enough people associate it with vagina to make it unworkable.

Having said that, anyone twee enough to use 'Minnie' as a euphemism for vagina is not someone I'm going to have much in common with. Grin

I'm in the East Midlands and never heard of it used that way. But then again, maybe I've led a sheltered life!

What a shame, to spoil what could be a very cute name for little girls.

Southwest - lady garden or mouse here. I really wouldn't saddle a human being with it tbh.

arghhhmiddleage · 14/07/2012 01:27

Oh, and "moaning Minnie". That might be an East Anglian thing, I have dual nationality Grin

Please don't worry about it. People really won't associate the two once she's named. I never think of Minnie Mouse as having a "fanny's name" and there enough Williams out there!

Never heard it in Manchester and considered it myself as it is in my family tree also. I only decided against it because of the associations with Minnie Mouse and thought although it would be cute while she is little, it might get irritating once she has grown up.
