Orson?

I am currently loving Orson.

Pros: easy to pronounce and spell, unusual but not weird, sounds good with surname, DH is a big Citizan Kane fan!

Cons: sounds a bit horsey?!

What do you think?

Love it but was vetoed by DH. Go for it!

birdofthenorth · 27/06/2012 12:05

Really like Orson. Surprised people haven't leapt on to say " 'Orse n Cart" or Awesome though!

Olive28 · 27/06/2012 12:07

I like it and didn't think of "horse".

LexieSinclair · 27/06/2012 12:08

I love it! It was high up on my list for DS. Smile

DorisIsWaiting · 27/06/2012 12:15

Just makes me think of Mork- "Mork calling Orson"

However that just shows how old I am.

It's not dreadful... I'm a bit Meh.

Splatch · 27/06/2012 12:44

Great name, don't know why it's not more popular.

besmirchedandbewildered · 27/06/2012 12:46

Doris - me too!

tammytoby · 27/06/2012 12:57

Love Orson.

What do you mean with 'horsey' - is it a common horse name Confused?!

lochlessmonster · 27/06/2012 13:02

Thanks all. A pretty good response so far -I vaguely remember Mork and Mindy but think I can live with the association.

Tammy -the "horsey" concern was just that I've heard people joke it sounds like Horse And... but my surname is not Cart/ Saddle/ Donkey so hopefully that wouldn't matter!

Brilliant. DO it! Wink

marge2 · 27/06/2012 14:12

sorry - i hate it - posh dog's name

TheMightyMojoceratops · 27/06/2012 14:25

Orson is/was a pig on Orson's Farm.

It some accents it will sound like Arson. Otherwise, I don't hate it.

tammytoby · 27/06/2012 14:26

Oh, I see. No, don't worry about the horse connection, then Smile.

marge, I love it - only in England are people not only concerned about 'posh' people, but 'posh' dogs too Grin!!

marge2 · 27/06/2012 14:31

i meant it sounded like a posh person's dog's name. ..as in pretentious!

tammytoby · 27/06/2012 14:32

But what would be wrong/strange for a 'so called' posh person to own a dog named Orson?! Should he be named Rex or Woofie instead?

AuntieBulgaria · 27/06/2012 14:33

We know one (he's about 2.5). Because we know him, his name is totally normal to us. I did wonder if it could be misheard as 'Awesome'.

marge2 · 27/06/2012 14:38

nothing 'wrong' with it as a name for a dog I just don't like it as name for a person.

keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 27/06/2012 14:43

I love it - Don't think DH would go for it though but I think its fab. Do it!

WithACherryOnTop · 27/06/2012 15:46

I don't like it. It'd sound like 'arson' in certain accents.

poppydaisy · 28/06/2012 13:00

I like Orson written down, but agree it is a little too close in sound to awesom or arson.

How about Tristan, Quentin, Cassian instead - they have a similar to feel to Orson but haven't got any pronunciation issues.

Hawise · 28/06/2012 13:03

Not that keen, probably as it reminds me of one of Bree's husbands in Desperate Housewives!

lochlessmonster · 28/06/2012 14:06

For those saying it's too like "arson", how do you feel about Auden as an alternative?

I really like it too be predict a panning hides!

TheMightyMojoceratops · 28/06/2012 14:40

Love Auden. Big Eng Lit fan though and therefore biased.

WithACherryOnTop · 28/06/2012 15:01

Love Auden.

lochlessmonster · 28/06/2012 15:01

Same here, degree in literature -I imagine a fair few people saying "you mean Aiden?"
