Nicknames for Eloise

that aren't Ellie or Ella?

I love the name Eloise, and DH is keen too (this in itself is a bit of a miracle Grin) but am a bit put off by the worry that they would inevitably be called Ellie or Ella. I don't dislike Ellie and Ella but there are sooo many of them.

Any ideas for what else could Eloise be shortened to that isn't too tenuous?

My DD has a name that is longer than Eloise and it has never been shortened by anyone other than me (yet)

SoozleQ · 27/06/2012 23:29

Our Eloise doesn't get shortened at all. It's been mispronounced a few times which has resulted in us calling her Eee-louse or El-wazzie when we're taking the mickey, but other than that she's Eloise Smile

minipie · 28/06/2012 11:10

Good to hear these reassuring responses! Thanks Smile

Now, I just have to re-persuade DH (he likes Eloise but has decided he prefers Beatrice... I don't mind Beatrice but prefer Eloise... argh).

Weezy I'm afaid!

You could try going for Lou Lolo or lola

salfringeman · 29/06/2012 11:39

My Eloise is nearly 3 and always refers to herself using her full name. However, everyone else seems to copy us and call her Lou which suits her just fine, and Looby lou while she is little! I think people will use the nick name you use so go for it.....

Portlyposh · 29/06/2012 11:50

Eloise is a lovely name!

Elle1235678 · 06/07/2021 13:55

my name is Eloise I normally get: Ella, Lulu, Elle (L), lily, lolly, louis and sneeze. The last one is very odd I know but as I was growing up my 4 older brothers would always call me "Sneezel weasel" their still do to this day

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 06/07/2021 14:12

I know one Eloise and some people call her by her full name and some call her Ellie.

Sorry OP but I think its inevitable!

Would you mind if you told family it's not to be shortened and then she would only possibly be called Ellie at school?

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 06/07/2021 14:13

Damn it who restarted a zombie thread and made me think it was a new thread!

Jossbow · 06/07/2021 14:15

LouLou, or Lewi/looi

OnTheSeaShore · 06/07/2021 14:17

My friend's Eloise is called Lulu

OnTheSeaShore · 06/07/2021 14:18

Oh crap. I've just seen how old the thread is now as well. 😠

fruitbrewhaha · 06/07/2021 14:21

I know a Weeze, who is Eloise, or Weasel.

Eloisedublin123 · 06/07/2021 14:22

I’m an old Eloise! I think I was the only one in Ireland for about 30 years! I’m usually called Eloise. One old friend calls me Lou. One old school friend calls me Elo. DH calls me “is dinner ready yet”
😛

SleepingStandingUp · 06/07/2021 14:26

I'd go Lolo bit also know an adult Eloise who doesn't shorten it and I wouldn't think to.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 06/07/2021 14:32

I know 2 eloises. One calls herself Wiz and the other doesn’t shorten it.

HR313 · 06/07/2021 15:23

We are expecting baby number two (don’t know sex) but we both love the name Eloise for a girl (like you I’m amazed we agree on the same name 😅). Our 4 yr old is Imogen and she rarely gets called ‘Immy’ or ‘Im’. I think a name like Eloise really won’t get shortened (which I prefer). I loved the nickname immy but she just doesn’t suit it!

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 06/07/2021 15:25

I went to school with a Louisa and her parents called her Lulabella.

Still with Eloise and tell your Dad to fuck off. You call YOUR child what YOU want.

shallIswim · 06/07/2021 15:28

Her nickname will evolve (or won't). I think I am old, but I don't understand this pre-planning of nicknames. FWIW I know two Eloises in their early twenties and neither have nicknames. It's not compulsory! My DD has a name which doesnt immediately lend itself to a nickname, and it wasn't something we even discussed. Yet she has a number of different ones which have sprung from family and different friendship grounds.
If you like Eloise, go for it, but don't let it live or die for want of a perfectly planned nickname!

PeonyRose80 · 06/07/2021 15:34

The Eloise I know is Elle, not many people know her real name is Eloise

Divebar2021 · 06/07/2021 15:41

My Eloise doesn’t get shortened. She does have a nickname but it’s not obviously derived from her name.

RuthW · 06/07/2021 16:04

Nell?

overtherainbo · 14/07/2021 20:57

My DD is Eloise-Elizabeth and prefers Ella

She's just turned 6 and says Eloise sounds like Ella's wee'd which I'm absolutely gutted about. I think it's a beautiful name

overtherainbo · 14/07/2021 21:07

I've just realised how old this thread is
