So what's the betting some of these names will start to become mainstream?
I reckon Jaime, Tyrion and Eddard are all very serviceable...

Apparently Jaime's a common Spanish name anyway, so could definitely be popular! Tyrion's awesome - will anyone be brave enough?

4lbsOfShiteInA2lbBag · 25/06/2012 17:37

I was watching GoT last night and deliberating over Tyrion. I really like it :)

Disclaimer: am 6 days overdue so may just be hormones talking!

Ephiny · 25/06/2012 17:50

Some nice girls' names too, though I can't see Danaerys going mainstream just yet (took me 3 attempts to spell that, I can see why he abbreviates to 'Dany' in the books!)

MammaTonic · 25/06/2012 18:02

I love Saorise, and reckon that if anyone outside of Ireland could pronounce it (Sair-shuh), then it would get popular.

I believe it's a controversial name in ROI, though.

4lbsOfShiteInA2lbBag · 25/06/2012 18:14

It's more Northern Ireland that Saoirse is contraversial in than RoI due to it's use as a slogan by Republican paramilitary groups.

badtime · 25/06/2012 19:48

It's actually Daenerys!

MammaTonic · 25/06/2012 19:49

Thanks 4lbs, I got confused! I blame baby brain because that was a shameful mistake!

picnicbasketcase · 25/06/2012 19:52

There was an interview with George R R Martin on tv and he said he gets people at his book signings with baby daughters called Daenerys quite a lot, so it could well become a popular name.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/06/2012 19:53

In Welsh, Tirion is a girl's name.

4lbsOfShiteInA2lbBag · 25/06/2012 20:08

Is it Nutella?

Don't know if baby is a boy or a girl so could Tirion could be a contender either way then over DP's dead body Grin

pickledparsnip · 25/06/2012 20:10

I love Arya!

MrsBovary · 25/06/2012 20:37

I've already spotted them on some shortlists. I like Cersei, but prefer similar Cerce.
Some of the name spellings are a bit Hmm but I think that's quite fitting for the period.

MrsBovary · 25/06/2012 20:40

Oops, I meant Circe!

Elizadoesdolittle · 25/06/2012 20:51

I know a 4 month old called Arya, and a dog called Sansa!

Showmethemhappyfeet · 25/06/2012 21:42

I like Cersei. Love Arya but it's not really GoT inspired.

WhatWouldMargoDo · 25/06/2012 21:44

I think Hot Pie could be massive in a few years. It's very Hoxton.

picnicbasketcase · 25/06/2012 21:45

I think Cersei is a lovely name but the character is a mad bitch so it puts me off somewhat.

arya7weasley · 25/06/2012 21:48

George Martin's website has picture of lots of dc named from his characters, very surprising how many Daenerys' there are...don't know if I would dare subject child to have to spell be that brave! Think it's obvious from my username which I use...

arya7weasley · 25/06/2012 21:49

*would use Blush

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 25/06/2012 22:01

Saoirse is seer-sheh, not saor-shuh. Is there one in the books?
Surely Jaime is already pretty popular?
Daenerys is brave though, isn't it?! :o

twoandfive · 26/06/2012 06:30

I love cersi!! Or for the brave hearted, Khaleesi!!

shinykatie · 26/06/2012 09:56

I know someone whose brother-in-law wanted to call his daughter Khaleesi! I haven't heard if he actually did.

I already know/know of quite a few Jaimes - Jaime Winston being one.

shinykatie · 26/06/2012 09:59

Also, in the TV show, Arya gets called both Arr-ya and Ari-ah. I'd always pronounce it Ari-ah. No idea which one is right.

OTheHugeManatee · 26/06/2012 10:00

Circe was an enchantress from the Iliad IIRC - so not a new name.

But I know a grown-up Eowyn, named after the character from Lord of the Rings; I won't be at all surprised if there's a rash of Danaerys over the next few years.

Also wasn't the name Wendy a made-up one from Peter Pan, that's become quite common since then?

Ephiny · 26/06/2012 10:50

I like Arya pronounced like Aria, but not the Arr-ya pronunciation.

Quite a few 'real' or similar names, e.g. Catelyn, Lysa, Lyanna, Arianne, Elia, Meera. I actually think Shae is quite nice but again the character connotations are maybe problematic...
