Eleanor or Eleanora - Which do you prefer?

Eleanor or Eleanora? I'd use the nickname Elora, but think this might be a bit 'made up' for the birth certificate? Any opinions would be very helpful, thanks.

If you're going to use Elora as nickname, I think Eleanora would work better as it also ends in "ora".

AdventuresWithVoles · 22/06/2012 20:42

Elora sounds made up to me, tbh. If you care about such things.
EL-ora? EEE-Lora? How do you say it?

Ellie as nn for Eleanor is nice.
Eleanor Roosevelt was very cool, good inspiration. Nora is alright on its own.

Daya · 22/06/2012 20:49

To be honest Elora is the name or the baby out of the film Willow, so probably is made up.

I have read on another web site that it's a truncated form of Eleanora - so as StepOutOfSpring says probably better to go for Eleanora... not at all keen on Nora though...

Eleanor
or
Leonora

are both v cool and classy

Eleanora's a bit of a gobful
You do know that they end up choosing their own nicknames?

Daya · 22/06/2012 20:55

I think i'm trying to find a way to call her Elora (pronounced El-ora) but havn't got the guts to put it on the birth certificate Grin..

Also slightly desperate as baby is now nearly 4 weeks old and nameless.

Would you consider Laura?

Daya · 22/06/2012 20:58

I've considered Lara, but I have a cousin called Laura so can't use that one.

Lara is pretty, with Larissa as full name

thereistheball · 22/06/2012 21:58

I like Leonora best. But it sounds as if you just want to go with Elora.

SugarMeFingers · 23/06/2012 08:14

Elora is pretty and is listed as a name here.

congratulations.

Leonora is lovely.
DS3 has the same forename as one of my (very many) first cousins.
DS1 has the same forename as my step-sis' husband.
In a family as large as mine, no one gets to reserve names, lol.
Besides, all DC have names that are deliberately after someone else in the family.

amandine07 · 23/06/2012 12:15

I prefer Eleanor...however, Elora is certainly very cute.

Clawdy · 23/06/2012 15:45

Prefer Elinor,my DD's name to the other spelling. Elora is pretty and unusual.

MrsJohnDeere · 23/06/2012 16:00

Eleanor is lovely.

Ephiny · 24/06/2012 12:22

I would be tempted to go with Elora, I think it's lovely (yes I would think of the fantasy film, but that's surely not the worst connotation a name could have!). Only problem I can think of is people might mishear as Laura?

Ephiny · 24/06/2012 15:53

Or what about Leora? Similar sound but a 'real' name?

Lannie33 · 24/06/2012 16:35

Go with your gut and stick with Elora!!! For sure. It's pretty, unique, easy to spell and pronounce, you can't go wrong!
My bf's DD2's full name is Alora (but everyone thinks it's Elora when they hear it, since it's name of a town near here and her DD1 is Vienna, so people assume she's named them after cities. Sorry for the digression.
My vote is Elora as the full name.

Hamishbear · 26/06/2012 16:26

Leonora is timeless, beautiful and very unusual. Surprising underused
