Zoe?

Hi!
Was hoping for some opinions on whether Zoe sounds ok with a 2 syllable surname beginning with 'w'. To my ear it just sounds like too many w's if that makes sense. It's the only girls name DP and I can agree on though and he doesn't seem to think it sounds odd. Is it just me?
Thanks

Im guessing your name is something like 'Wilson' or 'Whittle' in which case I dont see anything wrong with it.

StepOutOfSpring · 22/06/2012 12:42

I wouldn't use much of a "w" when pronouncing Zoe. It's not the same sound as at the start of a W surname. So I think it would be fine. I like Zara as well BTW.

KirstenDunce · 22/06/2012 13:51

I know a Zoe Walker and I think it sounds lovely, if that helps.

CreepyCrawly · 22/06/2012 13:54

I'm a Zoë, any my maiden name and now my married name are both 2 syllables. No Ws in mine but I really don't think it matters. I know a couple with the surnames Williams and Wilson and never thought too many Ws.

It's a lovely name ;) and not too popular either

SiioCal · 22/06/2012 14:53

I love it but we already have one in the family . Otherwise it would be on our shortlist . My surname is 2 syllable and the Zoe relation in a 4 syllable surname ad it sounds grey with both . I actually think it's would sound good with most surnames .

RobinSparkles · 22/06/2012 15:45

It hasn't done Zoe Wanamaker any harm. :)

Zoe is a lovely name!

morethanpotatoprints · 22/06/2012 15:50

Lovely name, but I always try and imagine them at school and other social situations. Theres a Zoe friend of dd at school and other activities. She always comes last when they do things and I always think the reason she is shy and quiet, could be coincidence.

MrsRudyRudpoo · 22/06/2012 16:06

Wow great feedback! I think I have the tendancy to overthink it a bit so glad it's just me! Thanks everyone

morethanpotatoprints You have just described me! Maybe there is something in a name after all Blush

blackcurrants · 22/06/2012 17:26

I don't think I pronounce it 'Zo -weeee', I think I sort of swallow the 'w' and the 'eee' sound comes from the back of my mouth, my lips don't make a 'w' at all ....

Now who's overthinking it, eh?

I love it. On our shortlist for middle names, should this one be a girl :)

HalleLouja · 22/06/2012 20:49

Love it. That's all.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 22/06/2012 21:02

I know two Zoes. They are both beautiful and talented and love their names.

I think it's lovely.

Fireandashes · 22/06/2012 21:06

One of my good friends is a Zoe and she definitely isn't quiet or shy! Grin

GreyTS · 22/06/2012 21:11

My Zoë isn't even slightly shy, she is a pushy little madam! Obviously I love the name, getting quite popular or maybe it's just that I notice the name more now that I have a Zoë

Polkadotfanatic · 24/06/2012 11:47

Gorgeous name, in my top five girl's names, but then I love Greek names - meaning is 'life' which is great, too.

I think in America, they tend to stick a 'y' on the end - Zoey- for pronunciation... Confused

Good luck :)

Lannie33 · 26/06/2012 02:43

No, actually we spell it the same way- Zoe, in N. America.
Lovely name, not weird with W last name at all.

Piccalilli2 · 26/06/2012 05:42

Zoe is an ace name (I have a Zoe) and fine with a W surname. Yes it does mean they're last for everything but frankly that tends to happen with a W surname anyway and it hasn't done dd2 any harm. We chose the name because it's unusual without being too out there.
