Dominie is sweet.

ParkbenchSociety · 23/06/2012 09:06

Dominie is a lovely, lovely name. It is unusual, but not wierd or hard to pronounce. It is very pretty.

Problem solved. Grin

mamaLou13 · 23/06/2012 13:49

Thank you `Mners you have been really helpful (and a little mean... but that is understandable) We have now settled on Domini for a girl (well Dh has anyway) Now for a middle name with a surname that rhymes with pickle.?

Branston

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 23/06/2012 14:16

Please have Dominie with an 'e' at the end.

MissRepresentation · 23/06/2012 14:36

The only Domini I know has no E, and she's pretty famous. And if you're using it with a idea to the latin, there is no E. I wouldn't add one.

CurrySpice · 23/06/2012 14:45

Don't you have a say OP? Hmm

ParkbenchSociety · 23/06/2012 17:39

The problem with Domini is that people may want to pronounce it the same as in Anno Domini that is with a hard 'i' sound at the end rather that an 'ee' sound.

I don't think anyone could mispronounce Dominie though?

lottiegb · 23/06/2012 18:06

Not Travis.

I don't know, I think your taste is difficult for me to guess. Pick something you love, on the assumption that it won't be used so you can be as outrageous as you like. Or, go for Susan or other sensible name in case she doesn't like the first one.

MamaLazarou · 23/06/2012 19:18

I love Domino.

mamaLou13 · 23/06/2012 19:21

curry Of course i have a choice i think that is quite a stupid question really. Personally i do like Olivia and Macy but Olivia especially is very very popular at the moment and i definatley do not want a name that there are two or three of in her class. Plus i don't think they would go vey well with my Dd's name whih is quite unusual (not overly so) but has a pretty common middle name to balance it out abit. Anyway for a boy we quite like Darwin and Elton or dare i say it River.... What are your thoughts on these?

Sorry to be stupid Hmm it was just that you hadn't mentioned your preferences at all. Just what your dh had settled on

I am sure there must be some middle ground between Olivia and Domino that you can both agree on

ParkbenchSociety · 23/06/2012 19:31

How about Dolivia or Olivino

Sorry that wasn't helpful was it Wink

mamaLou13 · 23/06/2012 19:33

This whole thread was discussing my Dh's choice though curry I am sure we will come to the right decision eventually. Although there are many ery unusual names i love i do not think it would be fair to name baby something to ott because i do not want them to get bullied for it etc but at the sma time i really don't wan tthem to have a boring run of the mill name just because we didn't have the guts to name them what we really liked.

Domino is awful. Something you would call a black and white cat or dog.

ParkbenchSociety · 23/06/2012 20:11

So Dominie it is?
Grin

amck5700 · 23/06/2012 20:34

What about Gray? It's unusual without being silly and would be a halfway house between the back and white of a domino.

GrimmaTheNome · 23/06/2012 20:37

Gray? An american spelling of a dull colour for a girl? I guess a boy could be called Grey.

amck5700 · 23/06/2012 20:47

Grimma- to me Gray sounds very elegant and sophisticated, makes me think of Breakfast at Tiffanys.

mamaLou13 · 23/06/2012 21:47

OOh no not gray it sounds dreary and definatley doesn't have that ring to it for me although i can sort of see where you are coming from amck

Not Elton. Darwin didn't treat his wife too well. River, if you have to but 'tis a bit American.
