So I think it's a lovely name. I like the sound and the whole biblical Rose of Sharon thing (from Song of Solomon). But the world is not ready for a Sharon revival right?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Be a trend setter, then (!)
Nothing wrong with it, and teachers will remember who she is. Sharon Osborne is about the only reference I can think of & I don't think children in 10 yrs time will have a clue who she was.

tigrou · 20/06/2012 17:54

Why not use Rose of Sharon, like in the Grapes of Wrath. They pronounced it Rosasharn. Actually I agree with you, if I tune out the shrieky voices in my head saying Tracy and Sharon, it is a lovely name.

StepOutOfSpring · 20/06/2012 21:16

Yes, why not a Sharon revival? I'm old enough to remember the popularity of Sharon from first time round, and a Sharon I didn't get on with. But take that away and it's a reasonably pretty name.

PoppyWearer · 20/06/2012 21:19

My two best friends in the whole world (both live overseas) are called Sharon, and neither fits the stereotype.

PuppyMonkey · 20/06/2012 21:22

It's not the time yet. Grin

Lunarlyte · 20/06/2012 21:30

My SIL is Sharon, born in the early 70s.

I don't know ... I think of 1980s, Essex 'Sharons', Ozzy hollering 'Sha-ruuuuun!'. It's not a bad name but I can't picture a baby Sharon, IYSWIM. Maybe its because the stereotype is strong in my mind and I prefer softer sounding, girly names.

MacMac123 · 20/06/2012 21:43

I think its a bit too soon for a revival ! It's taken 50 or 60 years for names like Mabel and Betty to come back round again. Think there's a good couple of decades before Sharon and tracy do!

AKMD · 20/06/2012 21:46

Oh gosh please no.

usualsuspect · 20/06/2012 21:47

I quite like Sharon, I like Tracy too

bigbluebump · 21/06/2012 15:56

I think it is definately due a revival - your dd will be ahead of the curve if she is a Sharon. It has a lovely sound imo and actually makes a refreshing change from all the cutesy Lily,Daisy,Poppy,Milly names....

Dee03 · 21/06/2012 16:23

I have a good friend called Sharon...born in middle 70's

Maryvivienne · 21/06/2012 17:29

It's dire. I always think of birds of a Feather. Dorien??

NarcolepsyQueen · 21/06/2012 18:46

I'm not too sure she would be grateful to be honest Grin

peterpie · 21/06/2012 22:04

Another one here who doesn´t think it´s that bad, apart from when it´s shortened to Shaz that is Wink

Would you consider Sharna?

BodenBoredom · 21/06/2012 22:12

I think Grapes of Wrath too. What about Rose, if it's Rose of Sharon that appeals to you?

yellowflowers · 21/06/2012 22:32

Am not actually going to use it. Just think it's nice and would like other to use it... I want to start re momentum for a revival...

Selks · 21/06/2012 22:39

Terrible. Along with Janet and Tracy. Not due for a revival for a good while yet.

Selks · 21/06/2012 22:40

(no offence meant to Janets, Tracys and Sharons out there. Blush. I also have a fairly rank name if that helps)

twonker · 21/06/2012 23:27

I like the name. and Kevin.

ajandjjmum · 21/06/2012 23:28

Nooooo - poor child!

Devora · 21/06/2012 23:29

I like Sharon and Tracy. Pretty names.

Lannie33 · 22/06/2012 03:50

Sharon is not that bad. I know one, born in 1980. She's Indian, a doctor, very social. Her sisters are Nadira and Vanessa.
Tracy I am not a fan though, sorry to say. Weirdly, I know a doctor named Tracy too. She is Chinese, very smart, outgoing and super cool and unique. I'm not sure but i think she might be a lesbian or bisexual, not that there's anything wrong w that. Wow, too much information on the name Tracy :)

CakeBump · 22/06/2012 09:05

I like Janet!

Its a horsey name like Jane or Jill.

Rose of Sharon is interesting - I love the Grapes of Wrath but she's an unfortunate character to name your baby after....

evamummy · 22/06/2012 10:36

I think our children will love the name Sharon as they haven't got the 1960s/70s associations that we do. In itself, it is a beautiful sounding name and a little Sharon would have a very 'cool' name growing up imo.
