changing mind about name with 3 weeks to go!

i have 3 weeks to go before my daughter is due, and we have been decided on a name for months. we refer to her by this name as do all the family.

its a lovely name but for some reason I've decided i like another name better, not sure why! is it too late to change the name, given as everyone is already refering to her by another name?

thanks for any advice :)

What is it? And what do you want to change it to?

strawberryswing · 19/06/2012 21:27

Both are lovely.

Georgia, is less common. And by common, I mean I know lots of Isabella's.

MarianForrester · 19/06/2012 21:30

It's not too late! Why don't you wait until you see her and decide which suits her best?

MacMac123 · 19/06/2012 21:41

I think it's really common to change your mind late on. Just wait till she's here before deciding for sure

nurseneedshelp · 19/06/2012 21:43

I'm unsure how anyone can decide on a name until they've met their baby!!
Both lovely names though, good luck!!

We changed our dd2's en-route to the hospital. Mind, we'd not told anyone, and it was only if she was a girl, we'd also got a boy's name ready.

btw - Isabelle (and various variations of) are 10 a penny at the moment.

StepOutOfSpring · 19/06/2012 23:52

Georgia is lovely - don't change it! Isabelle is very popular, Georgia will be more unusual.

Staceisace · 20/06/2012 02:44

I like both. My mum was SURE my brother was a 'Luke' until he was born - he's now Stuart and my other brother was 'Daniel' but is now Jamie. She changed her mind once she saw them both and decided her original names weren't right so maybe just wait until you see her little face?

I always feel a bit weird when I hear people asking their pregnant friends how 'little Emilia' or whatever is. I'd need to be a million per cent sure of my baby's name before sharing it and don't think I could do that until it's born!

I'm sure your family won't mind you changing your mind - not that it's up to them anyway. Maybe mention that you're thinking of another name just so they don't keep thinking of her as Georgia in case you end up changing it.

CarriMarie · 20/06/2012 10:10

If you haven't already decided on a second name, Georgia Isabel goes well.

nappyaddict · 20/06/2012 10:14

I regretted picking my name after the 20 week scan. Like you everyone referred to him by this name and I didn't even consider any other names. When DS was 2 I came across a similar but slightly different name which I preferred. Had I not picked his name so quickly I may have actually come across it when I was pregnant rather than 2 years too late!

badtasteflump · 20/06/2012 10:19

I would stick with Georgia - Isabelle is a nice enough name but as others have said, Isabelle and other variations are really popular at the moment whereas Georgia is more 'individual'.

gnushoes · 20/06/2012 10:31

I don't see how you can decide on a name for a person you haven't yet met, and how it would be difficult to change that "decision" before she's born. You've got six whole weeks after she's born -- take your time, get to know her. She's got to live with it for the rest of her life.

nappyaddict · 20/06/2012 10:36

nurseneedshelp and gnushoes - Did you not even think about names until your DC were born or did you have a shortlist of names you would pick from once they arrived?

NoComet · 20/06/2012 11:02

DD1 was named when I was 9 and found out my fav. Great Aunt had a nice second name. If I had a DD that's what she'd be called.

DD2 was DH's turn. He choose a TV presenter he fancied Wink I liked, DD1 liked it, my family liked it.

Clearly we choose a bit too well because both DDs names are very common.

Isabelle is beautiful, but like my twos names a bit too common.
I know an older Georgia, but no recant ones, but half of ballet is forms of Isabel.

birdofthenorth · 20/06/2012 16:31

No probs changing your mind, I know several people who've announced their baby's name after birth then changed their minds, but imho Georgia is a better choice than Isabelle just because if you add up all the Isabel/ Isobel/ Isabelle/ Isabella/ Issie/ Izzy/ Belle/ Bellas it is one of the most popular names right now. DD's nursery class (1 & 2 yr olds) is almost all Ava/Eva/Evie/Ellie/Izzy/Isabelles.

strawberryswing · 20/06/2012 17:23

thanks everyone :)

i really wanted a name that wasn't particularly popular, but that was awell known and not uncommon, as i have an uncommon name i hate with a passion!
and Georgia fitted that quite nicely , so i don't know why Im having second thoughts.

i know Isabelle is very popular in the UK, but I've not come across a single one in my local area, my mum works in a nursery and there isn't a single Isabelle there!

i think i will wait until she is here and then i can decide properly, thanks everyone

My work involves visiting dozens of Nurseries and there are Isabelles (or a variety of spellings of the name) in virtually every one at the moment.

gnushoes · 22/06/2012 12:33

We had a list for number 1, a list for number 2 (but weren't sure and she ended up entirely different) and had firm ideas for number 3. But didn't do birth certificate on any until last possible day.

nappyaddict · 26/06/2012 08:45

gnushoes Was that incase you changed your mind?

AmandaLF · 26/06/2012 09:56

Me and my husband had picked a name for our son but the more people said it the more I went Off it so we picked another one. After having him and still in the theatre we decided we didn't want either of the names we'd picked so chose another one. Think we'd saw the name once online but that was it. My point is, don't worry about it. See what your daughter looks like first.
