Simon or Timothy

Baby boy due imminently. These are our two chosen names (middle name will be after my late grandfather). Think we would shorten to Tim, maybe Timmy as a baby/ toddler.

Anyone care to share their thoughts? Or suggestions in a similar vein (not too 'of the moment', but an ordinary sort of name).

Don't really like either. I don't like the way Simon sounds, and my brother is called Timothy and its just such a silly name.

Are there no others you like?

Simon is a great name and v underused these days. Have you also considered David, Robert or Nicholas? Good luck xx

Tim Nice But Dim just makes me think of drippy posh boys with wet fish handshakes .

David, Michael, Henry, etc - lots of 'normal' names that are much 'stronger'.

Simon...I like Simon a lot, but either is fine, congratulations on picking two nice, normal names for your offspring.

Simon was the undisputed winner on 'Goth Scoop' this year (go to Whitby Gothic Weekend, shout random blokes' names out of rental flat window above Flowergate, score one for every chap who looks up).

...so obviously massively popular with baby boys born between '65 & '80 who are now IT geeks!

& as a teacher, I've never met a Tim I didn't like.

Both a bit too nice I think - I'd go with Vincent as suggested above!

Thanks for all your varied responses. I think we'll go with Simon. Only like Tim really, not the full Timothy, and it's a bit short with our surname.

Vincent advocates - love it, but DH's boss and I can't get him to consider it (despite all rational arguments like how he won't be his boss forever!)
