Pretty. I really like the name Louise too.

kickingKcurlyC · 12/06/2012 12:55

Very nice.

lazyfish · 13/06/2012 15:19

It's my name and I've always rather liked it - but don't like being called Lou. Never met that many other Louisas but think it is becoming more popular now.

mrsXsweet · 13/06/2012 16:47

It is beautiful and elegant.

CheerfulYank · 13/06/2012 18:17

Thank you for the input! I think it is gorgeous. I had a great-grandmother called Maria Lousia, and I always thought it was so pretty.

Peers closely thru the ether to see if CY & I are related.

CheerfulYank · 13/06/2012 19:14

She was Finnish, if that makes a difference Voles. :) And actually was my great great grandmother, oops.

I love it, but vetoed for DD as it is the name of someone we see quite often but don't know or like that well.

CY, you have great taste in names, I remember you from other name threads. I seem to think you have a DS with the same name as mine, and I remember discussing 'Frederick' with you, when I was considering it too. My Frederick was a girl tough.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 13/06/2012 19:35

My sister is Louiza (outs self as I don't know any others with the same spelling) and was called Lulu/Weezer all through her childhood. Didn't quite work so well when she hit her teens, so is just Lou now Smile It's a nice name.

CheerfulYank · 13/06/2012 19:42

Thanks Bike! I think we do have a same-name DS. :) I still love Frederick (was my beloved Grandfather) but am still unsure as to a nn. Could I get away with Teddy?

Also, I am not even preg right now but am going to start TTC in August... I'll pretty much be doing a name thread a day at that point. :o Blush

Love Louise and Louisa. Very Austen-esque. And I only know lovely Louises!

letsblowthistacostand · 13/06/2012 20:38

Just lovely (I am biased :)) Has the added bonus of being vv unusual in the US!

CheerfulYank · 13/06/2012 23:09

Yes, it is TacoStand ! Hanging around Mumsnet for years has given me a different taste in names than most of my fellow Minnesotans. :o

That's strange - I reckon the most famous Louisa ever was an American (Louisa May Alcott of course, another positive for the name), I'd have thought it was a standard name there.

CheerfulYank · 14/06/2012 03:36

I know! She was amazing; Little Woman is one of those books I reread every year or so. :)

Women of course. Blush

Ah, my Maria-Louisa, living in your area, too, was Swiss :).

EllenParsons · 15/06/2012 00:38

Louisa is lovely but Louise really boring

misslinnet · 16/06/2012 19:59

It's a lovely name.

But Lou as a nickname could be a problem. I have a friend called Lu, and she gets annoyed about people saying 'loo' instead of 'toilet', because loo sounds just like her name...

bouncysmiley · 16/06/2012 20:12

Lovely, very pretty name
