Girl/Boy twins - heeeelp!

Just found out we're having girl/boy twins which, though lovely, is also a bloody headache for naming. DH and me would like something to reflect the fact that these babies are long awaited so we were thinking maybe a virtue name or something with a nice, happy meaning. Fairly unusual would be nice. ATM frontrunners are Prosper, which is DH's MN, and Celeste. I know Prosper's a bit out there but it's not completely nutty I hope. Surname is 3 syllables, common, beginning with W. Any opinions/ideas most welcome!

Not exactly 'out there' but I know a brother and sister called Felix (means lucky I think?) and Grace.

For girls, Hope and Faith are less widely used than Grace. I guess there's also Destiny though I'm not keen on that personally. Hero possibly?

Boys are harder. I think Felix could work well. Or Phoenix to be more unusual (rising from the ashes?) Victor?

amck5700 · 11/06/2012 19:06

David means "beloved" and Carys is i think "much wanted" or something like that.

AlexanderSkarsgardIWould · 11/06/2012 19:11

Beatrice means 'she who brings joy'.

Tortington · 11/06/2012 19:13

live long and prosper

its just not good

cpngrats - i have BG twins aged 19

i like them!

bettycrocker · 11/06/2012 19:17

...b-but isn't living long and prospering a good thing? Sad Waah, DH will be gutted if Prosper gets demoted to MN, he's determined to leave his macho legacy on future generations. Felix is nice, Destiny is a bit...unelegant.

randomimposter · 11/06/2012 20:45

Prosper Benedict (blessing)
Felicia Hope
or
Oneida (long awaited) or Carina (beloved)
Congrats on twins!

StepOutOfSpring · 11/06/2012 20:56

Agree Felix is nice :)

Felicity, Lucy, Joy, Anna, Verity, Gloria

Clement, John, Ernest, Maxim, Constantine, Justice

lots33 · 11/06/2012 21:04

I like Valiant for a boy.

Congratulations!!

Lunarlyte · 11/06/2012 21:07

Felix and Felicity? Or is that a bit naff?

Wilona (girls name) means 'desperately wanted'

Saul means 'wished for' (or something very similar)

Samuel means 'God has heard' (as in, heard your wish)

Ella means 'everything, all complete' (in German - or a least it stems from a word that means those things. Might be too ordinary and/or popular for your taste, though?)

Hope that helps a bit :)

I have b/g twins. I frequently wish I'd given them names that alliterate (or nicknames that do) as they get called very silly names that start with the same letter. It's just happened, it's so much easier to say. I'd go for few syllables (actually 1 syllable) or a very obvious nickname. What would Prosper's nickname be? Surely you would not stick to the whole thing all the time (I tell ya, calling 2 names all the time means you need easy to say names!).

Jude (means 'Praise') and Genevieve (Gen for short)

sugarspiceandallthingsnice324 · 11/06/2012 21:21

Philo (love) and Lula (famous warrior)

SuzysZoo · 11/06/2012 21:49

Luke and Leia, obviously. Or Benny/Bjorn and Agnetha/Frida - take your pick. I have boy/girl twins and it's fab (but not so much for the first year).

Booette · 11/06/2012 21:54

Reuben - which means "behold, a son"

hatebeak · 12/06/2012 20:33

I like Prosper and Celeste. If Prosper is a family name, I think you can get away with it. It's unusual, but not ridiculous, sweet for a baby and dignifed for an adult.

FfoFfycsecs · 12/06/2012 20:37

I like Celeste, but in my honest opinion, Prosper is very out there. It makes me think of a barrel-chested mayor type with a very red face. A bit pretentious. Sorry (and keep in mind that I'm only a woman off the internet and loads of people will love it.)
Geraint is a Welsh name meaning loved one.

CheerfulYank · 12/06/2012 20:45

Prosper is quite out there...you could call him Ross or something for short though. :)

I like Celeste. Verity is also very pretty, I think, as well as Honor/Honoria, Constance ( I know a lovely little Constance) or Serenity, which I love.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2012 21:19

Huge congratulations. :)

Celeste is okay but Prosper is quite a hard load to give a child, I think. it just reminds me of, "All the infections that the sun sucks up. From bogs, fens, flats, on Prosper fall" from 'The Tempest.'

Constance and Verity are nice. Hope and Faith both fine too.

Naomi means 'beautiful and pleasant' which I think is lovely. Prudence could be due a revival too.

Benedict?

CloudRazor · 12/06/2012 21:27

I have boy/girl twins called Bruno and Lyra Smile
They're 3.5.
I wasn't really fused on meanings - Lyra means lyre which is a string instrument and Bruno means brown.

CloudRazor · 12/06/2012 21:28

That should be fussed Blush

WhiteHairReally · 12/06/2012 21:34

Celeste was the name of Barbar the Elephant's wife. I think they named a city after her.

winkle2 · 12/06/2012 23:01

Anaia means god answered.

Miriam means long awaited child

MerryMarigold · 12/06/2012 23:13

winkle2, do you have an Anaia? I know you!!!

MerryMarigold · 12/06/2012 23:14

I love the name Miriam

Max and Miriam?
Mark and Miriam?

winkle2 · 12/06/2012 23:28

No I don't have an Anaia :) I don't have any children... Yet!
