It's only just dawned on me that two of their children are Athur and Nancy, both on our shortlist but not any more

Sob!

Just don't leave them in a pub when you go out to have lunch on a Sunday.

I know. It galls me.

belindarose · 12/06/2012 09:37

I like their names too. Also liked the name Cameron , until he came along!

I know. It slightly annoys me that I seem to share a taste in childrens names with the Camerons too. One of the few opinions I do share with them, I would imagine.

belindarose · 12/06/2012 10:55

Quite!

They have gone for the current middle class names of choice though haven't they, Arthur, Nancy and Florence.

ToastedTeacakes · 12/06/2012 11:12

You should be ok, seeing as most people prefer to refer to him by another word beginning with the letter C...

5madthings · 12/06/2012 11:16

i liked the name Florence for a girl when preg with dd and am glad i didnt use it as they have done!

my friend has an Arthur, i had no idea that DC had a son called Arthur i remember his other sons name but didnt know the name of their other boy or elder girl until this thread tbh!

3boysgirlontheway · 13/06/2012 10:50

I do like their name choices, their DD2 and my DD share a name, however because we are in Ireland it does not really matter :)

Considering that when politics questions come up gameshows the number of people who even know the name of the current Prime Minister, never mind past PMs (which he will be before you know it) tends to be startlingly small, I would have thought that the number of people who know the names of their children would be so miniscule that it really shouldn't be an issue.

I consider myself to be reasonably well informed politically and I knew they had a girl called Nancy because I remember reading an article about how Sam Cam named a handbag after her, was surprised to just read that they had an Arthur and had probably known close to when they were born and died what their other children were called but had forgotten.

Anyway it seems an odd reason to discount names that you like.

Don't be put off using the same names as the Camerons. Most people won't know / won't care what their DCs are called. (Anyone remember the names of the Blair children?)

In particular, don't be put off the name Arthur. The Camerons don't call their son that - they use his second name: Elwen. (....Which is a bit weird as Elwen is typically a girl's name in Wales. Boys are called Elwyn.)

CreepyCrawly · 13/06/2012 16:50

Why does it matter? If my baby is a girl, she will be called Nancy. It's a name that means so much to me, and I've always said that my first daughter will be called Nancy.

If you like it, use it :)
