Expecting DC2 in Novemeber and wont be finding out the sex. Girl's name sorted as still love name we'd chosen for DS1 if he'd have been a girl.
Boys names are too hard - have drawn up the following shortlist and would much appreciate comments and suggestions along similar lines - not overly concerned about popularity much more concerned that a name wont date too much

Sebastian - prob our favourite until my sister said it sounds too much like bast**d - ridiculous comment and good job she's family !!

Henry - very Scottish DH says its too English but I am English and we live in England - think he's half joking and could be persuaded

Francis - love Fran but worry Francis is too wet? and couldnt put Fran on birth certificate

Theodore - like but dont love - like nn ted but sound ridiculous with our surname so would be Theo

ruaraidh - Dh is Scots Gaelic would be nice to keep the heritage and love it when its pronounced properly but would people just say Rory? Dh has very similar name and doesnt mind the constant spelling out of his name but do I really want to saddle someone with the constant explaining and spelling?

Henry the best for me

dreamingofsun · 11/06/2012 14:14

like theo, henry and sebastian. francis is too girly espec fran. haven't a clue how to pronounce the last name and i can't imagine him being called it correctly very often - would be ok if yyou were happy to shorten it to something pronouncible such as rory

MagdalenaAlec · 11/06/2012 14:20

Haha, half Scottish DH said the same about Henry... Still really like it though and it is definitely timeless.

Theodore is also a very nice name and the nn Theo is better than Ted imvho

Not keen on Francis and Sebastian but that is probably because I am French and these two names are very common among 40/50-ish people. Fran is a nn for Francesca for me, never heard it for Francis.

I lived in Scotland for 2 years in the past but have no idea how to pronounce Ruaraidh...Rory would be an easy way for your son to avoid correcting people if he wants to, so I would not worry too much about using the name - provided you like Rory as well.

we have friends who have a Francis and he is always called Frankie which I really like. Also like Theo

dreamingofsun · 11/06/2012 14:24

frankie is nice

StepOutOfSpring · 11/06/2012 14:27

I like Henry and Theodore best, prefer Theo to Ted. Francis and Sebastian are also fine. Ruaraidh - yes I think people would pronounce it Rory TBH.

tammy234 · 11/06/2012 14:58

I like Francis best. And Ruaraidh/Rory. Not sure what you mean with 'wet' Confused.

Sebastian is so long that it will be inevitably be shortened - unfortunately Seb/Sebbie or Basty aren't very nice imo.

DS1 is Francis, great name! Sebastian is also lovely and is on our current list. Not sold on the others though, sorry.
