And now DH is being very uncooperative! We can't seem to find names that don't run into our surname (two syllables beginning with 'O') which is making things bloody awkward. The DC are Francis, William and Daisy.

Girls names are proving particularly difficult as anything ending in an 'A' sounds comic with our surname and it seems names ending in an A are the only ones we like! Beatrix was also on the list but again is crap with our surname.

So could you suggest some classic, timeless names that would 'go' with sibset without ending in an -a or -ie sound?

Forgot to add - we don't know gender.

There are loads of nice, classic girls names not ending in 'a'

Elizabeth
Edith
Agnes (nn aggie)
Caroline
Harriet

Well if you have a Daisy (as do I!), it would seem that 'ie' sounds are fine with your surname. In which case, have you considered Naomi?

And if Francis sounds okay, then Beatrice should too - and Beatrice much nicer than Beatrix imho.

Or how about:
Niamh
Maeve
Joy
Louise
Elizabeth
Catherine

The -ie goes with our surname really well, which is why the DC are known as Frankie, Billy and Daisy. I think another -ie would maybe be a bit overkill? Beatrix/Beatrice is because our surname is v similar to Potter, so a DD would essentially be called Beatrix Potter!

I really love Harriet, but the 't' sound jars with our surname. Catherine does work really nicely, as does Elizabeth. What are people's thoughts re boys names?

Caitlin, could be Katie if she wanted to match or Kay if she didn't.

Laurence? Laurie is a lovely nn, though another 'ie' of course.
Barnaby? And another!
Luke / Lucas?
Matthew?
Jude?

Girls:
If you have a 2 syllable surname beginning with O and sounding like Potter then I think you might be best with a 3 syllable name. I wouldn't worry too much about another 'ie' name because two of your children only have ie names as nicknames.

How about:
Girls:
Alexis, Annabelle, Bethany, Catherine, Emmeline, Eloise, Evelyn, Gabrielle, Harriet, Isabelle, Imogen, Jennifer, Juliette, Madeleine, Miriam, Natalie, Rhiannon, Romily, Stephanie, Violet

Boys:
Alexander, Alistair, Benjamin, Christian, Dominic, Jonathan, Jefferson, Nathaniel, Samuel, Timothy, Xavier, Zachary.

So far I really like Barnaby, Gabriel, Nathaniel and Zachary for boys and Grace, Miriam and Gabrielle for girls. Sadly others I like jar with surname due to strong consonants (mainly t's).

Seth and Sebastian are great, and work with surname! Lydia is an all time favourite of mine, but sounds ridiculous with the stupid surname :(
