What do you think - is this a name in its own right?

I really like the name Celie but not Celia, Cecily or Cecila. Could we use it as a name in its own right? Does anyone know any Celies?

Sorry it feels incomplete, and like a spelling mistake

HappyCamel · 07/06/2012 21:51

Umm, no, I'm guessing you are pronouncing it Seelee. do you like Kelly? Seelee is too close to silly.

ellangirl · 07/06/2012 21:54

Cicely?

LittlePandaBear · 07/06/2012 22:32

A nickname for Celeste?

HSMM · 07/06/2012 22:45

I know a Celie...it means something, but I can't remember what. She's a teenager now and loves her name. Pronounced sir lee with the emphasis on the 2nd syllable.

I know a Celie too. She's about 40 and pronounces it Seelee. Don't think she's ever had a problem with people thinking it's a spelling mistake.

NadiaWadia · 08/06/2012 03:05

Isn't it the French version of Celia?

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 08/06/2012 03:13

Yep I know a Cele. She's about 50 and pronounces it Seelee with the emphasis on the See. I like it.

My DD is Celia with nickname Celie. She is also known as Celiewheel, Wheelington and Celes.

I'd assume you were fans of Alice Walker/The Colour Purple - Celie is the main character.

You could spell it Seeley if you like surnames as give names.

Stellan · 08/06/2012 19:28

You could use Celine as her given name if you don't like any of the other names you suggested. Celia is lovely though.

I like it lots
