Hey I'm expecting a little boy start of sept. and I can't decide on a name. My boyfriend and his family love the name Herbie which I like but am just unsure. I also like the name Max. We are thinking of having his middle name as Andrew. So it would be Herbie Andrew T, or Max Andrew T? Or can anyone think of other names to help me..

What you could do is have a few names in your mind, then when he is born see what the midwife thinks. That's what I did. But don't go with anything your not comfortable with and imagine the name as an adult, how does it sound..

You are presumably aware that his initials would therefore spell 'hat' or 'mat'? (Not that there's anything wrong with hats or mats... I don't expect it would be a problem)

That doesn't bother me at all, my oh initials are sat. And mine are ram. Never bothered me growing up lol and if I ever marry my boyfriend I'll be a rat! Lol

Max is much nicer than Herbie.

I've actually been persuaded more to herbie, tho I've no idea what a nn could be, lol

Max.

Herbie is a bit twee and I'm not sure I'd want to introduce myself as Herbie if I were a 40-year-old bloke or awkward 13-year-old teenager. I'd suggest Herbert but I'm not convinced by that either.

Herbie is a nickname so therefore you don't need another...

Rachel130690 · 16/06/2012 18:02

No we won't be calling him Herbert. His name will be Herbie. Think it's a bit more appropriate. Bit like Charles is not Charlie.

It's after my granda as well so it has other reasons. I was fussed on it at the start but now I think it's quite cute. And he'll prob have a nickname or be referred to by his surname as most fellas do that.

Yes, Herbie is cute for a baby but I really don't think it works for a boy or man.

It's lovely that it has sentimental value for you though and what matters is that you like it! Good luck!

Herbie is fine as a nn but I can't imagine many adults being happy with that as their name, sorry

Staceisace · 16/06/2012 18:42

My grandad's car is called Herbie and mine was called Max so...I'm not sure!! I'd go for Max over Herbie I think.

Herbie is very little boy. I don't think I'd like to be called Herbie as an adult as it sounds very twee. I had a colleague at work called Herb - might that be an option for you?
