I HATE popular names, mainly because I have a popular name and was one of 20 in my year and an even more popular surname and I new 6 girls including my next door neighbour with my exact same name combination.

So when looking across unpopular names I came across my two most favourite names combined which someone used as a middle name for Juliette which is Avabella.

Is the name Avabella too much? Would you call her Ava, Belle or Bella (my top 3 but I wouldn't use Ava or Bella due to popularity) what would you think of a name having so many nickname opportunities and could you see it rising in popularity soon? And finally what do you think of Avabella Blair?

I don't like it - sorry. I get your problem - I also really like Ava and Bella, and I'm also paranoid about my daughter being one of several in her class, but to my mind it's too "made-up" sounding (and I think she'd end up being called Ava anyway).

Sounds made up, sorry. And as the mother of two dyslexic boys who is always paranoid at how people view their spelling I would always worry that people would assume you had just spelt Arabella wrong!

In terms of popular names I would go for what you want and sod it, both Ava and Bella are beautiful names.

Sounds made up and agree with PP its like you are trying too hard to be different. It would also inevitably get shortened to either Ava or Bella.

It sounds too close to 'have a bella'

The Ava/Evie type names (when you combine them) are at the top of the frequently used list in UK (Sophie + relateds being next).

It depends on how closely you associate "Bella" with other names ending in -bella (or -belle), because free-standing, I don't think it's even top 50, so perhaps you could just go for that.

It is just two very popular names put together. So even if it is not popular in the stats, it still sounds really popular, because of all the other Ava's/Bella's and Isabella's running around.
And it sounds made up.

I like Ava and I like Bella. Avabella is very saccharine, and a bit teenage girl/Twighlight-esque, in the way of picking two random names and putting them together into one. And I think that invevitably she'd end up being called Ava or Bella anyway, even if you didn't shorten it that way yourself.

If you like Ava, what about Aviva? Avis? Viviana?

Is a very popular name really so bad, in the grand scheme of things, if it's a name you genuinely love? TBH, even the best-laid plans to avoid popularity can be foiled. One of my friends named her DS something quite unusual (Stellan), only to discover when he started school that there were two other Stellans in his Reception class.

When combined the Ava bit looks like it would be pronounced 'av a.
As in 'av a nice cup of tea dear.

And if you don't like popular names, why call your child a name which is inevitably going to be shortened to a popular name?

How about Susan, Miriam, Belinda, Tracy, Christine, Angela, Carmen, Theresa, Sarah- I can practically guarantee they will be the only ones in the class!

Ava and Bella are very popular, so your wish isn't going to be fulfilled.

What about Annabel, classic name that isn't going to date, shortened to Anna or Belle/a if you can't resist?

It will be shortened to Ava or Bella. Hence, she will be known as one of the too-popular names you are trying to avoid, so I am not sure what you have actually acheived. FWIW, I dont think Bella is that popular. And I only know one Ava (although my DC are older so maybe the popularity surge came later).

Avoiding a popular name by combining two very popular names is not going to work.

I live in Australia where people give their children a far broader spectrum of names.
