What are your thoughts on these names for baby no. 2?. If we have a girl we would like a name that isn't very popular, as DD1's name is quite unusual. We prefer something more conventional for a boy. Would welcome some suggestions. Need to avoid names beginning with A or L.

Esme (but perhaps pronunciation is a problem)
Francesca
Cecilia
Thalia (although DH unsure)
Elana
Meredith

Thalia is my favourite. I love names that end with an 'a'.

Really struggling for boys names.
Peter?
Theodore?

Hello, here are my thoughts re your suggestions (gut reactions):

Esme - lovely name, really pretty and feminine. Would you accent the last 'e' in the name? If so, pronunciation is less of a problem

Francesca - nice, like the NN Frankie but maybe it's a bit 'safe'?

Cecilia - I prefer Cecily

Thalia - Sorry, not so keen on this

Elana - nice, I prefer Elaina, or Lena (pronounced Lay-na)

Meredith - I really don't like this name, though it's getting increasingly popular. I much prefer other Welsh names like

Carys
Cerys
Seren (You may prefer Serena as it ends in 'a')
Nia

I don't like the name Peter for a boy, but Theodore is lovely - Ted/Teddy/Theo.

Other traditional boys names which i like are:

Matthew
Andrew
Philip
James
Samuel
Jacob
Zachary
Lucas

HTH!

Boys names also ending in A (or Ah sound)?

Joshua
Noah
Conor

Also like Dominic
Reuben

(my DS's name starts with L so have ruled out!

Esme - Trendy and, from what you've said, it's probably not quite what you're after. Esther is a nice alternative.

Francesca - Love it.

Cecilia - Another nice choice. Cecily is also worth considering.

Thalia - Not one for me.

Elana - I'd use Alana, Elena (Elaina) or Eliana. I feel this name looks like it is missing something.

Meredith - I like this too. Merryn is also worth considering - crops up on MN quite regularly.

You might also like Martha, Tabitha, Helena, Louisa, Seraphina, Susannah, Matilda, Aurelia, Jemima, Alexandra, Samantha, Serena, Theodora, Georgia, Georgina, Calista, Savannah, Selena, Clara, Isla, Camilla, Ailsa, Melissa, Laura, Tatiana, Emilia, Emma, Sophia, Isabella, Rosanna, Anna, Fiona, Freya, Juliana, Sarah, Claudia, Jessica, Victoria, Eva, Arabella, Celia, Carina, Cecilia, Philippa, Cordelia, Joanna, Willa, Alicia, Rebecca, Christina, Athena, Nicola, Tessa, Teresa, Elsa, Julietta, Octavia, Eliza, Ava, Morvenna, Rosa, Thea, Theodora, Ayla, Antonia, Tara, Junia, Clementina, Flora, Henrietta, Iona, India, Ophelia

Peter and Theodore are 2 of my favourite names - great choices. You might also like Alistair, Arthur, Francis, Victor, Isaac, Asa, Ezra, Asher, Jasper and Caspar.

A few beginning with A or L in case the odd one works with your surname (think Marilyn Monroe, Janis Joplin, Farrah Fawcett, Lucy Liu, January Jones, Shilpa Shetty, Greta Garbo).

Love your name choices. Our dd1 has a very unusual name, so we found it difficult when choosing a name for dd2.

We named dd2 Esme in the end & they go perfectly together. We pronounce it Esmee & I absolutely love her name. I have still never, ever met another Esme.

Other names on our list were:
Thalia
Ivy
Naomi
Nina
Elena
