What do you think? Classic or boring? I'm going for classic or traditional but not to popular. Any ideas?

I love both of them. Had them on my list both times but DH didn't like them (don't let that put you off!)

Imogen more unusual than Lucy, but I would have loved to have used either of them.

Psammead · 01/06/2012 14:28

We have a Lucia who we call Lucy.

Not keen on Imogen, it just isn't my taste.

How about
Helena
Harriet
Catherine
Josephine
Clementine
Beatrix

I love Imogen. It sounds grown up, yet has lots of lovely nicknames you can use too: Immy, Ginny, Gina.

Personally I've never been keen on Lucy. No idea why - sounds a bit drippy to me, but that's obviously a personal thing.

If you like classic but not too popular, how about:

Susannah (nn Susie)
Anna
Harriet (Hattie, Hettie)
Elizabeth (Libby)
Ellen
Martha
Emma

DottieRose · 01/06/2012 14:35

Imogen is lovely.....Lucy is quite popular though!

YankNCock · 01/06/2012 14:36

This is so funny, my friend has a daughter called Lucy, but told me the other day they originally wanted to use Imogen but her MIL hated it. I think she wishes she'd not said anything beforehand and just named her Imogen, then MIL probably wouldn't have said anything!

iseenodust · 01/06/2012 14:36

Lucy is more popular round here. Only know one Imogen. Both quite classic IMO.

Zebraspots · 01/06/2012 15:07

I like both. DH would veto Imogen, would it get shortened to Immy? We have a Lucy :) it's meant to be popular, but I know of very few, at age 2. Maybe we're just lucky.

MoonHare · 01/06/2012 16:25

I think Imogen is lovely prefer it to Lucy, which is a little bit girly for me. I know one Imogen who is 4 and no Lucys.

misslinnet · 01/06/2012 19:51

I like both of them.

I know 2 Imogens, both about 2 yr old, but no little Lucy's. I know one or two adult Lucy's.

Nobhead · 01/06/2012 20:03

Imogen is nice. I know an adult Lucie.

overthemoon2009 · 02/06/2012 22:42

Love Imogen. Like Lucy but think it is v popular. There are two or three in my daughter's class at nursery.

ilovemybum · 03/06/2012 10:31

My niece is Imogen. Nn's include Imms, Mimmi and Mims.

Lovely name

Runoutofideas · 03/06/2012 11:13

I would have called dd2 Imogen except DH kept saying he would always see it as "Imagine" - Confused. Lucy is extremely popular in dd1's year (7 yr olds) There are 6 out of 45 girls... However none in dd2's year (5 yr olds)....

WinkyWinkola · 03/06/2012 11:24

Lucy is pretty but I do associate it with wet blankets.

Imogen is lovely.

How about Emma or Hermione?

septembersunshine · 04/06/2012 11:36

We have a Lucy :) no regrets here and she's anything but wet more like the most determined and clever two year old in the world! it means 'light' in Latin (I think of the lion the witch and the wardrobe - Lucy was the first child in that book to find the magical land).

We also had Molly, Annie (Annabel), Lily and Sophia on our list but she was a Lucy when we saw her. Imogen is ok but it doesn't flow well to my ears and it's not a pretty name - its more a strong name (just my opinion).

I've actually never meet another Lucy (child) and in my daughters class and in my son's nursery we haven't known one either. good luck!

DessieLou · 04/06/2012 14:55

Thank you everyone! I don't know any little ones with either name but I know one adult Lucy, so it's good to get your opinions. I'm actually veering toward Lucy (as is Himself - amazing that we actually agree!). I kinda agree with septembersunshine that it doesn't flow well, especially as our surname begins with M. Some good suggestions too, so thanks! Smile

I loved Imogen until my nephew's friend told me that the Imogen in his class gets called "Minge" for short. It is also very popular round these parts...

salt1 · 05/06/2012 10:03

love imogen it is on my list. other name florence. like lucy too but not as much x

littletomato · 05/06/2012 15:55

How about Audrey. Classic but I haven't heard of any lately.

tigrou · 05/06/2012 20:23

I know loads of Imogens, and really don't get the name's popularity. It sounds so clunky to me. Lucy is perfect, elegant and beautiful.

monkeymoma · 05/06/2012 20:26

I love them both

NappiesandGladrags · 05/06/2012 23:11

Personally not keen on Lucy or Imogen and i know there are quire a few at the childrens school! We've also moved twice in the last 6 years and i could say we have known around 6 of each in that time (and 2 schools are in very small country villages)

Other suggestions:

Madelaine
Matilda
Felicity
Martha
Susannah
Ada
Marianna
Harriet
Beatrice
Sasha
Alice
Juliet
