Sister for Ivy

lovemygirlivy · 25/05/2012 14:04

My dd has just turned 2 and we are expecting her little sister in late June.

Our favourite name is Romy - what do people think about Ivy and Romy.

Our second favourite name is Elodie if that makes any difference.

Middle name suggestions would also be helpful - Ivy's middle name is matilda.

If you want a name to 'go together' surely Holly would be the most appropriate?

I'm not sure how to pronounce Romy (as in Rom-y or Rome -y) and I would think that she would have to go through life spelling her name out on the phone.

LaGuerta · 25/05/2012 15:40

Prefer Eloise definitely.

Would you consider another botanical name? What about Hazel, Heather, Rowan?

hatebeak · 25/05/2012 16:23

I don't really like Elodie and I don't think it goes with the very Anglo-Saxon sounding Ivy. And I know it's really stupid and doesn't scan but Elodie and Ivy has started me off singing Ebony And Ivory.
This is unlikely to afflict many people, though, I admit it!
Romy, on the other hand, is really lovely. Romy Susannah? Romy Julia? Romy Josephine? Romy Adelaide? Romy Miriam?

lovemygirlivy · 25/05/2012 17:09

Romy is pronounced - Ro-mee. Hatebeak i really like your suggestion of Romy Josephine.

I'll be taking notes as I'm not pregnannt yet or even ttc but have been thinking about no2,

lovemygirlivy · 26/05/2012 16:30

Can't believe you have an Ivy matilda too, they should be friends of course. Although i love all you suggestions - i would really love everyones first pick of either Romy or Elodie. Reasons why would also be good

The Romy I know pronounces it Rom-ee not Ro-mee.

I prefer Elodie. Elegant, French, not too cutesy.

Thisisformatilda · 26/05/2012 16:45

It might get confusing lovemygirl! Grin
I named her after my great grandmother

I prefer romy

They are both lovely & cute but 'elodie & ivy' makes me think of 'ebony & ivory' too! I'd be singing it in my head for the rest of my life! Grin

willyoustillloveme · 26/05/2012 16:46

Don't use Holly Shock although it is a fabulous name.Wink

Romy - lovely, also like Romilly (sp?)
Elodie - don't like, irrational just irks me

Love Pearl but won't be using it as dh as made a rude remark about it
Mabel- top of my list

Iris would go really well with Ivy, also like Autumn.

Thisisformatilda · 26/05/2012 16:48

How about edie?

Badgerina · 26/05/2012 17:21

Romy: Prefer Romola (like Romola Garai)

Elodie: Not keen. Sounds like part of Melody. Not sure if it goes with Ivy too well.
