For a boy whose father's name is Andrew?

Thoughts? :)

Give him Andrew as a middle name.

squoosh · 23/05/2012 16:46

I think anything goes really as a middle name. It's when people are allowed to release the crazy without having to worry too much. Not that Anderson is crazy, it's fine. But why don't you just use Andrew if it's to be after his Dad?

CheerfulYank · 23/05/2012 16:51

Because I sort of like surnames as middle names...I am American after all. Wink And DH isn't too keen on his name.

I'm not pregnant, just mulling it over. :) The boy's name we like is short, as is our surname, so I think something longer like Anderson in the middle would flow well.

Makes me think of andy Anderson in all the topsy and tim books ..

squoosh · 23/05/2012 16:57

Oh well as you're American! Wink

It sounds quite East Coast, Ivy League, maybe plays lacrosse, goes out with someone called Blair or Sloan.

It's nice though, surnames work well when popped in the middle.

Psammead · 23/05/2012 17:19

I like it. I also like 'Anders'. The -s is also indicative of the father's name, a sort of shortening of 'son' I guess, left over from Viking days.

FetchezLaVache · 23/05/2012 17:20

I used to work with an Anderson who shortened it to Andy- I quite like it!

CheerfulYank · 23/05/2012 17:24

I like Anders too, Psam. :) I actually know a few little Anders', Gunnars, Olafs, etc...being heavily settled by the Scandis and all here in Minnesota. :)

Yeah, I suggested it with your heritage in mind. Not so sure about Gunnar, mind! We've been considering Wolf, recently, which might just be the hormones Grin

I think it's a nice idea, giving him his father's name as his Mn. Would you consider using your maiden name, perhaps?

CheerfulYank · 23/05/2012 17:31

I have considered it, and am still thinking about it. I don't love my maiden name but I am attached to it. :)

My last name is Brick (as I live in America I'm not concerned about stalkers :o ) and the name we like is Jack. And yes yes I know JaCK BriCK is not lovely, but I do so adore the name Jack. So...Jack Anderson Brick?

I like Wolf actually! :)

I love the name Anderson, it was my (Scottish) Grandfather's first name, and my uncle had it as a middle name.

Excellent choice, OP Grin

Andi McDowell is called Anderson.

ComposHat · 24/05/2012 02:42

In Scotland and some parts of the north of England it is usual for males to have their mothers maiden name as a middle name. Is there a way to manage to do that with the first name that you want?

Really not a fan of random surnames as first names as a rule though.

mathanxiety · 24/05/2012 16:42

I think it's lovely and its meaning (son of Anders/Andrew) makes it completely appropriate.
