What do you think?

dd4 is 10 days old now and still nameless!

Cecily - Alice seems pretty widespread

Stellan · 22/05/2012 14:19

Alice - timeless.

I like Cecily too but I always feel a bit lispy saying it.

Both are lovely so whichever you choose, I'm sure your daughter will love it.

MrsBovary · 22/05/2012 15:38

Cecily

Lunarlyte · 22/05/2012 16:19

Oooh, both are nice but how about 'Cecily Alice'? I think that sounds lovely! Congrats, btw! Thanks

Trestle · 22/05/2012 16:42

Cecily (Cecilia even nicer though)

WithACherryOnTop · 22/05/2012 16:47

They're both lovely. Cecily is more unusual though,so I'd probably go with that, but you can't go wrong either way.

MoonHare · 22/05/2012 18:00

Really like both names. Cecily is more unusual and bohemian but might date whereas Alice is a classic. It's a tough one, both are great names.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 22/05/2012 18:20

Cecily

Alice is too common place

Geranium3 · 22/05/2012 18:23

congrats! much prefer cicely and cicely alice sounds lovely too

Allthesanityinme · 22/05/2012 18:47

I prefer Alice, classic and timeless. Cecily is a bit tricky to say and seems quite trendy at the moment, may age.

Fayrazzled · 22/05/2012 19:07

I think Cecily is quite popular now and so might be 'of a time', whereas Alice is more timeless.

ViolaCrayola · 22/05/2012 19:10

Prefer Alice by a whisker but both nice.

bobbledunk · 23/05/2012 00:52

Cecily.

JudithTaverner · 23/05/2012 11:55

thanks all - you all seem fairly evenly split which doesn't help! I'm no closer either as I love both names, and can see that Alice is possibly a bit more classic and Cecily more trendy (although i think Cecily predates Alice by several centuries). I think that dh prefers Alice so we may go with that. or maybe not.

I think Cecily Alice is a lovely name combo too, but also think they are very similar sounding, so maybe Cecilia Alice is a better combination.

Cecilia Alice has the 'a' at end of cecilia leading into 'a' at beginning of alica which is not so flowing.

I think both are lovely - why not relax and see what you and DH feel when you see her. the sight of a baby usually has a knack of focusing the mind!

JudithTaverner · 23/05/2012 12:55

she's 12 days old now! I'm starting to feel the pressure from other people to name her.

OP posts:
smother · 23/05/2012 13:22

oh goodness, sorry, hadn't noticed that she's already here. if it's any help, with one of my dd's I got into a name dilemma between 2 names that ran right up to the 6 weeks deadline! wouldn't recommend this actually but do know how difficult/distressing it is.

stick with Cecily.

good luck.

Born2BRiiiled · 23/05/2012 13:31

Alice definitely. Easier to say, and a bit "stronger". Cecily is a bit wispy I think. Celia or Cecilia are nicer maybe.

littlepie · 23/05/2012 13:36

I prefer Cecily.

What about Cecile? I have a vair glam french friend called this and I think it's lovely

JudithTaverner · 23/05/2012 18:02

there is a Cecile I've met through work who is very annoying (and not french and chic).

I'm using both names interchangeably to see which one I prefer.
